Smilanic Scores Lone Goal for #12/13 Men's Ice Hockey in Thrilling Win
HAMDEN, Conn. – Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Massachusetts) came up clutch time after time Sunday afternoon, stopping all 28 shots he faced as the No. 12/13 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team shut out the No. 10/10 Clarkson Golden Knights, 1-0, at Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena.
Petruzzelli was strong early, making nine saves in the first period and had a stellar second period as he came away with saves on all 13 shots he faced, including several highlight reel stops. He shut the door in the third period with six saves in the third.
Quinnipiac's defense stepped up in front of Petruzzelli all night long as it blocked 17 shots, their second most this season.
Ty Smilanic (Denver, Colorado) scored the game-winning goal with 3:33 remaining in the first period for his eighth of the season. Guus van Nes (Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, Netherlands) won a battle in the right corner and poked the puck to Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) a few feet to his right where Tufto immediately fired a centering feed to Smilanic in the slot for the quick redirect past Ethan Haider's blocker side.
With the assist, Tufto extended his point streak to a career-best 10 games continues to lead the nation with 20 assists and 24 points.

- He has the second-longest point streak in the nation, trailing only North Dakota's Jordan Kawaguchi for the longest point streak in the nation after Kawaguchi's goal Sunday night
- Tufto's 10-game point streak is the longest by a Bobcat since Sam Anas had a point in 16 straight games from Dec. 12, 2015 through Feb. 26, 2016.
- He now comfortably leads the nation with 20 assists and 24 points, as Massachusetts' Bobby Trivigno is second in both categories with 13 assists and 18 points.
- van Nes picked up a point for the first time since Dec. 27 with the secondary assist on Smilanic's goal
- van Nes now has seven assists and eight points to continue his breakout sophomore season.
- Quinnipiac's 1-0 victory was its first 1-0 win since defeating Brown by that score on Feb. 3, 2017.
- Quinnipiac hits the road Friday as the Bobcats will meet the Colgate Raiders at Class of 1965 Arena in Hamilton, New York, to begin a home-and-home series at 5 p.m.
- The Bobcats and Raiders will return to Hamden on Sunday for a 4 p.m. tilt
