Petruzzelli Picks Up Second Straight Shutout with 3-0 Win at Colgate

Petruzzelli Turned Away All 21 Shots He Faced, Burgart Scored 8th of Season
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Bobcats defense dominated once again Friday night and Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Massachusetts) recorded his second straight shutout as the No. 11/11 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team defeated the Colgate Raiders, 3-0, at Class of 1965 Arena.
Petruzzelli stood up to the task all night long, turning away all 21 shots he faced with a solid eight-save third period to preserve the shutout big. He now has shutouts in back-to-back games for the second time in his career, and his current shutout streak of 138:28 is the second-longest of his career.
With the win and St. Lawrence's overtime win at Clarkson, Quinnipiac moved into a tie with the Saints for first place in the ECAC Hockey standings after recording their third straight victory.
Desi Burgart (North Vancouver, British Columbia) scored his second game-winner in the last three games after a goal in the first period for his eighth of the season.
The Bobcats defense shut down the Raiders chances on the offensive end before Skyler Brind'Amour (Raleigh, North Carolina) scored a breakaway goal with 4:04 remaining in the third period and Ethan de Jong (North Vancouver, British Columbia) finished the night with an empty-net goal with 3.8 seconds remaining in the game.

- (12:48, 1st period) – Quinnipiac 1, Colgate 0: Michael Lombardi (Barrington, Rhode Island) tracked down a loose puck off a shot from Christophe Fillion (Sherbrooke, Quebec) and worked a no-look pass to Burgart on his left who rifled a wrister past Gylander.
- (15:56, 3rd period) – Quinnipiac 2, Colgate 0: Brind'Amour carried the puck through all three zones before finding some space in at the right faceoff dot and wristing a shot that snuck under Gylander's blocker to double the Bobcats lead.
- (19:56.2, 3rd period – EN) – Quinnipiac 3: Colgate 0: Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) missed an empty-netter but chased down is own rebound and skated around Colgate's goal to find de Jong streaking down the slot for the tap-in, empty-net goal.
- Petruzzelli recorded his second straight shutout in the 3-0 effort, recording back-to-back shutouts for the first time in his career

- Petruzzelli is now tied with Bud Fisher '09 for fourth in Division I program history with nine career shutouts and passed Andrew Shortridge '20 for sixth in Division I program history at 43 career wins.
- He lowered his season GAA to 1.89 and raised his save percentage to .927
- Burgart fired home the game-winning goal in the first period to pick up his eighth tally of the season, tied with Ty Smilanic (Denver, Colorado) for the team lead and third in the nation
- Brind'Amour recorded his second goal of the season and first since Dec. 26 against AIC to give him points in two of the last three games
- de Jong recorded his seventh goal of the season to move into third on the team and a tie for 12th in the nation
- He is now third on the team with 13 points
- Tufto extended his nation-leading active point streak to 11 games with an assist on de Jong's empty-netter
- He now leads the nation with 21 assists and 25 points
- Tufto is tied with Todd Johnson '89 for fourth in program history with 111 assists
- Zach Metsa (Delafield, Wisconsin) recorded a pair of assists for his second multi-assist game of the season and fourth multi-point game
- He extended his nation-leading assist total among defensemen to 12 and now leads the nation with 15 points
- Peter DiLiberatore (Bedford, Nova Scotia) continues to impress as he recorded another assist to maintain pace for second among defensemen in the nation with 11 helpers on the season and is tied for third in the nation with 13 points
- Michael Lombardi (Barrington, Rhode Island) recorded his fourth assist of the season and now has assists in two of the last three games
- Christophe Fillion (Sherbrooke, Quebec) recorded his third assist and fourth point of the season in Friday's game
- The Bobcats and Raiders make their way back to Hamden for Sunday afternoon where the two teams will meet in the second game of their home-and-home weekend series at 4 p.m. at Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena.
