HAMDEN, Conn. — Rising senior forward Mason Marcellus has been named captain of the 2026-27 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team, head coach Rand Pecknold announced at the team's annual awards banquet on Sunday afternoon.
The Greely, Ontario native served as an assistant captain during the 2025-26 season, totaling 34 points in 38 games to help lead the Bobcats to their sixth consecutive Cleary Cup as the ECAC's regular season champion and a seventh straight NCAA Tournament appearance, the longest active streak in the country.
Marcellus has played 115 games in a Quinnipiac uniform, totaling 108 points with 32 goals and 76 assists. He has put up at least 34 points in all three campaigns including a career-best 38 points in the 2024-25 season.
He became the sixth Bobcat to ascend from being an assistant captain to captain in the Bobcats' Division I era, joining Zach Metsa and Wyatt Bongiovanni in recent memory. The first to make the jump was Ryan Olson from the 2000-01 season (assistant) to 2001-02 season (captain).
Quinnipiac completed the 2025-26 season 27-10-3 and a 17-4-1 resume in ECAC play, advancing to its fifth regional final in the last seven years after knocking off Providence in the Sioux Falls Regional Semis.
