HAMDEN, Conn. — The No. 7 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey program begins its postseason run this weekend as it welcomes Clarkson for the best-of-three ECAC Men's Ice Hockey Championship Quarterfinals, set across the four top seeds in the ECAC standings.
The Bobcats are coming off their sixth consecutive Cleary Cup as the ECAC regular-season champions, the only team in the country to win six straight titles in the same league.
THIS IS MARCH
- The college hockey postseason is upon us once again as the Bobcats host another three-game quarterfinal series at M&T Bank Arena, this time welcoming Clarkson to town for the two program's first postseason matchup since the 2007 ECAC Championship Game, a 4-2 Clarkson victory.
- Victor Czerneckianair leads all Bobcats with 16 games played in postseason play, while Mason Marcellus is the team's leader in points with 11 in just nine games in the postseason. Andon Cerbone has five goals in nine playoff appearances.
- The Bobcats have played 47 postseason contests since their second run to a Frozen Four in 2016, the fourth-most in the country.
ALL-LEAGUE STATUS
- Five Bobcats earned All-ECAC honors as the squads were announced throughout the week leading up to the ECAC Quarterfinals this weekend.
- Ethan Wyttenbach and Elliott Groenewold were both unanimous first team selections, as voted on by the league's head coaches. Wyttenbach led the league and country with 57 points in the regular season, with 36 of those in 22 ECAC contests. Groenewold finished with a plus-27 rating in league play, the highest mark by four.
- Antonin Verreault was named to the Second Team, while Mason Marcellus earned his third consecutive all-league honor, garnering a place on the Third Team.
- Verreault and Wyttenbach were also tabbed All-Rookie selections.
RECORDS ARE MEANT TO BE BROKEN
- First-year forward Ethan Wyttenbach is headed into Quinnipiac history in his first campaign in Hamden, chasing both rookie and overall records in the program's Division I history.
- His 57 points currently place him atop the program's first-year scoring rankings, besting Brian Herbert's record from the 1999-00 season. He also leads the nation with that number.
- He is two points off the overall Division I program scoring record, currently held by Collin Graf and Bryan Leitch.
CLEARY CLINCHED
- Quinnipiac earned its sixth consecutive Cleary Cup as the ECAC's regular season champion two weeks ago, knocking off Harvard 4-1 to clinch the title.
- With the win, the Bobcats entered historic company with six consecutive titles.. Only Minnesota State has ever won six straight league regular season titles and Quinnipiac is the only school in the country to win five consecutive regular season titles in a singular league.
