His second, three-goal performance in 33 days powers Quinnipiac to win in battle for first
HAMDEN, Conn. — For the second time this season, grad student forward Jack Ricketts recorded a hat trick and the No. 14 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey program utilized the final tally of his three-goal night to finish off No. 19 Dartmouth by a 5-4 final at Thompson Arena on Friday night.
The Bobcats took a wild, back-and-forth affair that saw teams trading two-goal stretches and the visitors would have the final blow, as Ricketts scored the tying goal with 3:57 to play and then won it just 47 seconds into the extra session as Dartmouth was caught in a change.
Dartmouth took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission but then the game took off, with eight goals over the next 40:47 of game action. Ricketts and Charlie Leddy found the net in the second period, giving Quinnipiac a 3-2 lead heading into the third.
After Dartmouth scored twice in 2:07 to take the lead, Ricketts had the last say, scoring the tying and winning goals.
With the win, the Bobcats extend their ECAC lead to four points over Colgate, who plays their game in hand on Saturday night.
STATS AND NOTES
Quinnipiac returns to M&T Bank Arena for a pair of games with the North Country foes in St. Lawrence and Clarkson. Both Friday and Saturday night's contests are slated for 7 p.m. and can be seen live on ESPN+.
