DiLiberatore Scores Shootout Winner for Extra Point in ECAC Hockey Standings
POTSDAM, N.Y. – TJ Friedmann (St. Louis, Missouri) scored the game-tying goal in the third period to force overtime and Peter DiLiberatore (Bedford, Nova Scotia) tallied the shootout winner as the No. 10/10 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie at the No. 14/14 Clarkson Golden Knights Friday night and earned an extra point in league play with the 2-1 shootout advantage.
The Bobcats gained a little distance in the ECAC Hockey standings, finishing the night with 16 points and lead Clarkson and St. Lawrence who are both tied for second with 12. Quinnipiac is 10-4-2 this season and extended its unbeaten streak to five games in the tie.
Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Massachusetts) saw his shutout streak come to an end early in the first period Friday as Mathieu Gosselin scored just 2:44 into the game to give Clarkson a 1-0 lead on the second shot of the game.
Petruzzelli's shutout streak ended at 201:41, the second-longest shutout streak in program history. He went on to stop the next 22 shots he faced to keep the Golden Knights off the board and the Bobcats in striking distance.
After both goaltenders had a dazzling second period, Friedmann finally broke free to tie the game as he won a faceoff in the offensive zone off of a media timeout. The puck went back to Logan Britt (Crystal Lake, Illinois) where he fired a shot from the point that Friedmann redirected past Haider for his first of the season.
Both teams had several chances down the stretch and the Bobcats nearly put home the winner in overtime before Quinnipiac went to its second shootout of the season. Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) scored on the Bobcats first attempt and Petruzzelli turned away four Clarkson attempts before DiLiberatore rifled home the shootout winner.
