Golden Knights Pick Up Extra Point in League Play with Tally in Shootout
POTSDAM, N.Y. – Ethan de Jong (North Vancouver, British Columbia) scored his eighth goal of the season Saturday evening as the No. 10/10 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team skated to a second straight 1-1 tie with the No. 14/14 Clarkson Golden Knights but Clarkson gained the extra ECAC Hockey point by winning the shootout, 1-0.
The Bobcats extended their unbeaten streak to a season-best six games with their second straight tie as they are 4-0-2 in the last six games. Quinnipiac also remains in first in the ECAC Hockey standings with 17 points.
de Jong gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead with 6:12 remaining in the second period as he one-timed home a blast off a feed from Joe O'Connor (Hamden, Conn.).
Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Massachusetts) had yet another strong effort between the pipes as he kept the Golden Knights off the board for much of the game before Clarkson finally broke through. He stopped the first 11 shots of the third period before Mathieu Gosselin one-timed a backdoor, extra-attacker goal to tie the game with 40.7 seconds remaining in regulation.
Petruzzelli made two more saves in overtime to finish the game with 26 saves.
The Golden Knights' Zach Tsekos converted on the first shootout attempt and it held strong as Clarkson goaltender Ethan Haider stopped every shot he faced to earn the extra point in league play.

SCORING SUMMARY
- (13:48, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 1, Clarkson 0: Jayden Lee (North Vancouver, British Columbia) broke up a rush from Clarkson and tapped the puck to de Jong who quickly found O'Connor with a backhand pass. O'Connor skated from the red line into the offensive zone before finding de Jong for a one-timer from high slot that was too hot for Haider to handle.
- (19:19.3, 3rd period) – Quinnipiac 1, Clarkson 1: Zach Tsekos knocked down a clear attempt with his chest and fired a pass from the point down to Alex Campbell next to the right post where he controlled the puck. Tsekos took a second and slid a centering feed to Mathieu Gosselin on the back door for the one-timer to tie the game with 40.7 seconds remaining in regulation for the extra-attacker goal.
- de Jong's goal was his eighth of the season, tied with Desi Burgart (North Vancouver, British Columbia) for second on the team and 12th in the nation.
- He now has goals in three of his last six games and the Bobcats are 6-1-1 when he scores a goal
- O'Connor picked up his first assist of the season for his second point of the season as he played his second ECAC Hockey game of the season
- His point was his first since scoring in an 8-3 win vs. AIC.
- Lee notched his fifth assist and sixth point of the season with the secondary assist on de Jong's goal, his first point since Jan. 9 vs. Clarkson
- Petruzzelli allowed one goal and now has allowed just two goals in his last five games, and has allowed one goal or fewer in eight games this season.
- He lowered his GAA to 1.66 and raised his save percentage to .934 after his 26-save performance.
- The Bobcats and Golden Knights will face off for the final time in the regular season Sunday at Cheel Arena with puck drop set for 4 p.m.
