Women's Ice Hockey Welcomes Union, RPI this Weekend

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Bobcats return to Hamden for two home ECAC games against the Union Dutchwomen and RPI Engineers. Quinnipiac is coming off a weekend sweep over Brown and Yale.

Bobcats' Last Time Out
Quinnipiac traveled to Providence, R.I., to take on the Brown Bears on Friday, Jan. 31. The Bobcats came out on top in a 3-1 win in which three Quinnipiac skaters recorded multi-point games. Juniors Taylor House and Taylor Girard and senior Kati Tabin all netted one goal and added an assist in the win. Senior Abbie Ives allowed just one goal against and made 17 saves.
On Saturday, Feb. 1, Quinnipiac took on in-state rival Yale in New Haven. The Bobcats earned two road points in the 3-1 win. First-year Kate Reilly scored with five seconds left in in the first period from Girard and senior Sarah-Eve Coutu-Godbout. Junior Grace Markey scored the game-winner in highlight reel fashion from a beautiful pass from first-year Sadie Peart. Peart later scored the Bobcats third goal with four minutes to play. Ives made 30 saves and allowed just her second goal against of the weekend.
National Women and Girls in Sports Day
This weekend, Quinnipiac athletics will be celebrating National Women and Girls in Sports Day at the women's ice hockey game against RPI and the women's basketball game against Siena. Stations with Quinnipiac student-athletes will be set up at the People's United Center for fans to interact with. There will also be a Quinnipiac scrunchie and Bobcat gloves give-away.
ECAC Playoff Push
The Bobcats currently sit in seventh place with 16 points in the ECAC standings. With six games left to play, the conference standings could shift immensely by the final weekend. Cornell sits in first with 29 points on an undefeated record of 13-0-3. Princeton, Harvard and Clarkson make up the rest of the top four, while Yale, Colgate, Quinnipiac and St. Lawrence stand in the final four spots for the potential eight playoff seeds.
Scouting Union
The Dutchwomen will come to Hamden with a 5-18-5 overall record and 5-8-3 conference record. Union is 2-1 in the last three games after sweeping RPI and dropping a 2-1 decision to St. Lawrence. Grace Heiting leads the team with 12 points on five goals and seven assists. Bella McKee has played in 27 games for the Dutchwomen, recording a .917 save percentage and 2.78 goals against average.
Last Time against the Dutchwomen
Quinnipiac dropped the first game against Union, 4-2, in Schenectady, N.Y. It was the first Quinnipiac loss in program history against Union. The Dutchwomen took a two-goal lead before Coutu-Godbout scored to bring the Bobcats within one goal. Three goals were scored in the final minute of play, but the Dutchwomen held on to win, 4-1.
Scouting RPI
The Engineers have yet to win a game this season and hold a 0-27-1 overall record. Blake Orosz leads the team with six points on four goals and two assists. Ena Nystrøm has played in 18 games for the Engineers in the net, recording a .917 save percentage and 3.45 goals against average.
Last Time against the Engineers
The Bobcats won the first game against RPI, 4-0, back in November. Four different Bobcats scored in the win including first-year Kenzie Hauswirth, juniors Brooke Bonsteel and Laura Lundblad and Coutu-Godbout. Bonsteel and Peart both tallied two points in the win. Quinnipiac tallied a season-high 48 shots against RPI, and Ives made 14 saves, which is a season-low.
Girard Finding Her Groove
Junior Taylor Girard is currently on a four-game points streak after tallying two power play goals in back-to-back games against Ohio State and Princeton. She added her third in a row against Brown, and followed with an assist in the 3-1 win against Yale.
Adzija, Coutu-Godbout Leading
Sophomore Lexie Adzija and senior Sarah-Eve Coutu-Godbout are leading the Bobcats' offensive charge. Adzija leads the team with 23 points on 10 goals and 13 assists. Coutu-Godbout has recorded a team-high 12 goals and has 17 points on the season. The duo has a combined six power play goals this season with four game-winners.
First-Years on Fire
Reilly and Peart both recorded multiple points in the last three games. Peart has recorded seven goals and seven assists for 14 points this season, which is ranked ninth in the conference freshman scoring category. Reilly has tallied 13 points which ranks 12th out of all freshmen.
Ives in the Net
Senior netminder Abbie Ives is ranked in the top five in the ECAC in save percentage (.932 – fourth) and goals against average (1.78 – fifth). Through 93 games played in the net, Ives has tallied 2,009 career saves, which ranks second in the program's all-time record book. Victoria Vigilanti holds the record with 3,035 career saves.
Goals All Around
Nine Bobcats have recorded double-digit points this season, including three defensemen. Senior Kenzie Prater (4-10-14) and first-year Kate Reilly (5-8-13) are both ranked in the top-ten in the ECAC defensemen scoring category. Senior Kati Tabin (3-8-11) is ranked 13th in the ECAC.
Dominant Defensive Core
Quinnipiac's defensive core has allowed 46 goals this season, averaging 1.71 goals against per game, which is ranked seventh in the country and third in the ECAC. Senior Kenzie Prater leads the team with 42 blocks, followed by Reilly with 36.
Bobcat Special Teams
Quinnipiac currently ranks tenth in the country on the penalty kill (87.1%), going 61-70. The team also ranks ninth in the country on the power play (19.1%), converting 17 out of 89 attempts. Quinnipiac is also one of the least-penalized team in the nation, averaging just 5.5 PIM per game this season.
Non-Conference, Non-Stop
Quinnipiac completed the final non-conference games of the season after a two-game road series with No. 5/5 Ohio State. The Bobcats went 7-3-1 against non-conference opponents in 2019-20. The team outscored non-ECAC opponents 35-17 this season.
