HAMDEN, Conn. - The No. 17 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team is set for the final weekend of the regular season as the Bobcats host the Brown Bears for Senior Night on Friday night before the Yale Bulldogs come to town on Saturday for the 18th Annual Heroes' Hat Game in the Battle of Whitney Ave.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac split its weekend series in the Capital Region as the Bobcats fell at Rensselaer, 4-0, before bouncing back with a 3-2 victory in overtime at Union. The Bobcats dominated both teams in shots, including a 53-27 advantage at the Dutchmen Saturday.
 
Scouting Brown
The Bears have struggled this season with a 7-18-2 record but all seven of their wins have come in ECAC Hockey play with a 7-11-2 record. Brown split last weekend with a 3-0 loss to Cornell after a 3-1 win against Colgate. The Bears have played better of late as they are 4-4-2 in the last 10 games. Justin Jallen, Brent Beaudoin and Zach Giuttari are all tied for the team lead in points with 13 while Jallen leads the team with nine goals and Beaudoin is second with seven. Giuttari is the lone Bear with 10 assists on the season. Gavin Nieto has started the bulk of the games in his senior season as he is 6-15-2 with a 2.56 GAA and .911 save percentage in his 23 starts. The special teams for the Bears have been middle of the road as they are 17.1 percent om the power play and 82.1 percent on the penalty kill.
 
All-Time vs. Brown
Quinnipiac and Brown skated to a 2-2 tie in overtime the last time out as the Bobcats are now 3-3-1 in the last seven games against the Bears. All-time, Quinnipiac owns a 24-10-7 record against Brown.
 
Scouting Yale
Yale has pulled back within a game of .500 with a record of 12-13-2 and are at .500 in league play with a 9-9-2 record. The Bulldogs are 3-2-1 in their last six games beginning with the overtime loss against the Bobcats on Feb. 7. Curtis Hall and Justin Pearson have been stellar on the offensive end as they are tied for the team lead with 23 points while Hall has the slight edge over Pearson in goals, 14-13. Tyler Welsh is the third Bulldog with 20-plus points this season with eight goals and 14 assists. Goaltender Corbin Kaczperski has struggled at times between the pipes this season as he is 11-11-2 with a 2.97 GAA and .900 save percentage. Yale has been average on the power play at 18.4 percent but have struggled on the penalty kill at 76.3 percent.
 
All-Time vs. Yale
The Bobcats are 13-1-3 against the Bulldogs in 17 games since the beginning of the 2013-14 season and have won five straight games against Yale after the overtime win on Feb. 7. Quinnipiac is 23-7-5 all-time against Yale.
 
Rand Pecknold Bobblehead Night
Friday night is Rand Pecknold Bobblehead Night and the first 1,000 fans at the game will receive a limited edition Rand Pecknold Bobblehead, the second coach at Quinnipiac to receive a bobblehead night.
 
National Standings
Quinnipiac remained ranked in the USCHO Poll for a seventh straight week as the Bobcats fell one spot to No. 17. The Bobcats received 184 points in the poll and are also two spots outside of the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll Top 15.
 
Playoff Push
The Bobcats are right in the mix for a home quarterfinal series at Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena as the Bobcats need one point to clinch the first round bye in the ECAC Hockey playoffs. Quinnipiac has received a first round bye in five of the last seven seasons, including last season when the Bobcats were the No. 1 seed and clinch a share of the Cleary Cup.
 
Solid Season
With two wins this weekend, Quinnipiac would finish the 2019-20 ECAC Hockey season with the same record as last season when it won a share of the Cleary Cup as Co-Regular Season Champions. The Bobcats have won at least 12 games in ECAC Hockey play in eight of the last nine seasons and have finished above .500 in 12 of its 16 seasons in ECAC Hockey. Overall, Quinnipiac is just one win away from its second straight 20-win season and 18th 20-win season.
 
Senior Night
The Bobcats will honor its three members of its Class of 2020 in Karlis Cukste, Alex Whelan and Nick Jermain. In their careers, Quinnipiac has reached one NCAA Tournament and won a Cleary Cup in addition to winning 84 games in their four seasons with the program.
 
Karlis Cukste
Karlis Cukste enters the weekend with 144 games played in his Quinnipiac career and has been a consistent offensive threat in his time in Hamden. Cukste has 14 goals and 51 assists for 65 points, and has never had fewer than 13 points in a season. He is one of 13 defensemen in program history with at least 50 assists. This season, Cukste has four goals and 13 assists for 17 points.
 
Alex Whelan
Alex Whelan picked up his eighth assist of the season with an assist on Odeen Tufto's overtime-winner at Union for his 21st point of the season as he approaches his career-high from last season of 25 points. Whelan has scored 13 goals in each of the past three seasons while his 48 career goals are tied for 24th in program history. Whelan enters the weekend with 13 goals and eight assists for 21 points.
 
Nick Jermain
Nick Jermain is in the midst of the best season of his career as he has scored a career-high 11 goals and has a career-high with 18 points. Jermain's 11 goals are more than twice as many as his previous two seasons combined. In his career, Jermain has totaled 25 goals and added 23 assists for 48 points over 121 games.
 
Shots, Shots, Shots Everybody!
The Bobcats had an impressive performance against Union Saturday night as they outshot the Dutchmen, 53-27 and had a 26-6 edge in the third period and overtime. Quinnipiac's 53 shots on goal were its most in just over two years since the Bobcats had 54 shots on goal in a loss to Maine on Dec. 8, 2017.

Last Time Out
