Getting It Done in OT
Quinnipiac picked up the first 3-on-3 overtime victory in program history Tuesday night with a 2-1 victory over Sacred Heart. Wyatt Bongiovanni buried game-winning goal to give the Bobcats their first overtime victory since Oct. 14, 2017 when the Bobcats beat the Vermont Catamounts at Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena on Odeen Tufto's winner in his third game as a Bobcat.
Record Setting Night
The Bobcats 9-2 win over the Pioneers on Monday night was one of the most impressive statistical feats in some time for a Quinnipiac hockey team. Nine different Bobcats scored goals in Monday's win, the first time since at least the 1999-2000 season that Quinnipiac had nine different goal scorers in a single game.
Quinnipiac's nine-goal game was also just its 14th game with nine or more goals since joining the Division I ranks in the 1998-99 season, and only the third in the past 18 seasons.
Five for Five
Quinnipiac also had two dominant periods in that 9-2 victory over Sacred Heart, netting five goals in the second period and four in the third. It was the first time since Oct. 27, 2018, that the Bobcats had two periods with four or more goals and first time since Feb. 15, 2020 with a five-goal period. Quinnipiac has had just four games since the beginning of the 2015-16 season with at least five goals in a period.
Metsa Matters
Zach Metsa picked up where he left off in 2019-20 as he racked up his first career four-point game with a goal and three assists against Sacred Heart in the season opener. Metsa's four-point game was the most for a Quinnipiac defenseman since Brandon Fortunato '19 had five points against AIC on Oct. 27, 2018. Metsa added an assist in the second game of the series for a total of five points.
Strummin the Bonjo
Wyatt Bongiovanni recorded back-to-back multi-point games against Sacred Heart to give him 12 such games in his career. He had two goals and two assist in the series, upping his career total to 31 goals and 52 points. Bongiovanni extended his point streak to four games dating back to the final two games of last season
Tufto Beat
Odeen Tufto extended his own point streak to five games after finishing the 2019-20 season with points in three straight games. Tufto opened the season with four points on a goal and three assists, moving NCAA Men's Ice Hockey leading career assist total to 93 and point total to 125. He is just seven assists away from becoming the fifth Division I player in program history and eighth overall player in program history to reach that mark.
Tufto's back-to-back multi-point games gives him 38 such games in his career. He also has 25 multi-assist games.
