Five Bobcats Score as Men's Ice Hockey Takes Down Dartmouth, 5-1

Bongiovanni, de Jong and Leyh Each Tally Goal and Assist as Bobcats Complete Sweep
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team extended its season-best winning streak to five games Saturday night as the Bobcats defeated the Dartmouth Big Green, 5-1, and completed their second straight weekend sweep.
Quinnipiac scored the first four goals of the night to put the game out of reach despite a late Dartmouth goal. Ethan Leyh (Anmore, British Columbia) scored with 2:10 remaining in the game and following his goal, head coach Rand Pecknold put Josh Mayanja (Framingham, Massachusetts) to close out the victory with five saves.
Five different Bobcats found the back of the net Saturday night led by Ethan de Jong (North Vancouver, British Columbia), Wyatt Bongiovanni (Birmingham, Michigan) and Leyh each tallied a goal and an assist.
Seniors Alex Whelan (Ramsey, New Jersey) and Nick Jermain (Norwalk, Connecticut) also scored goals for the Bobcats while Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) and William Fällström (Stockholm, Sweden) each dished out two assists.
After a scoreless first period, the Bobcats poured on three goals in the second period to take a 3-0 lead heading into the intermission. Jermain scored with 5:57 remaining in the third period to put the game away before Leyh closed out the scoring.
Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Massachusetts) made 21 saves between the pipes for the Bobcats as he continued his impressive play of late before giving way to Mayanja to finish off the victory.

- (3:09, 2nd period - PP) – Quinnipiac 1, Dartmouth 0: de Jong put the Bobcats on the board just over three minutes into the second period as they put on a tic-tac-toe passing display from Tufto to Bongiovanni and back across to de Jong waiting on the back door.
- (3:59, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 2, Dartmouth 0: The Bobcats doubled the lead just 50 seconds later on a rush up the ice off a feed from Karlis Cukste (Riga, Latvia) to William Fällström (Stockholm, Sweden). Fällström threw the puck on net where Whelan put his stick out and tipped it past Dartmouth netminder Adrian Clark.
- (11:26, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 3, Dartmouth 0: Bongiovanni blasted home the puck off a Tufto faceoff win from the left faceoff dot for his third goal of the weekend.
- (14:05, 3rd period – PP) – Quinnipiac 4, Dartmouth 0: Jermain scored the Bobcats fourth straight goal with 5:55 to go in the third period as he perfectly tipped home a Peter DiLiberatore (Bedford, Nova Scotia) blast from the point.
- (16:25, 3rd period) – Quinnipiac 4, Dartmouth 1: Tyler Campbell ended the Bobcats' shutout bid as he took a feed from Collin Rutherford and went forehand-backhand before roofing the puck past Petruzzelli.
- (17:50, 3rd period) – Quinnipiac 5, Dartmouth 1: Fällström deflected the puck off a faceoff and PJ Fletcher (Dana Point, California) chased it down to feed back for Leyh who rocketed home a goal for his fifth of the season.
- Bongiovanni scored a goal for a fourth straight game Saturday night and upped his ECAC Hockey leading goal total to 11 on the season.
- He also added an assist for his third straight multi-point game and fifth of the season
- Bongiovanni has five goals and two assists for six games in his point streak.
- de Jong recorded a goal for a second straight night to pick up his fifth goal of the season.
- Petruzzelli stopped 21 of 22 shots for the Bobcats as he played 57:46.
- He lowered his GAA to 2.13 and a .918 save percentage with another impressive performance between the pipes.
- Josh Mayanja (Framingham, Massachusetts) came in with the Bobcats up four goals late and tied his career-high with five impressive saves between the pipes in his third career appearance.
- Mayanja has not allowed a goal in his last two appearances for the Bobcats, with his last coming at Nassau Coliseum against Colgate on Dec. 29, 2018.
- With his goal Saturday night, de Jong finished the weekend with two goals and two assists.
- Whelan picked up his third goal of the season to extend his point streak to five games with his tip goal.
- Tufto tallied another pair of assists Saturday night to extend his point streak to four games and now has 19 assists on the season to lead ECAC Hockey.

- Quinnipiac heads on the road for the first time in 2020 this weekend as the Bobcats travel to the North Country to take on St. Lawrence and #4/6 Clarkson. The Bobcats face the Saints Friday night at SUNY Canton at 7 p.m. before traveling down Route 11 to Cheel Arena in Potsdam to face the Golden Knights at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
