Bobcats' Senior Defenseman Tallies Two Goals, One Assist Against Former Team
BOSTON – Brandon Fortunato (North Hills, New York) scored the game-winning goal with 2.5 seconds remaining in regulation Saturday as the No. 6/7 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team downed the Boston University Terriers, 4-3.
Fortunato scored a pair of goals and added an assist for his third three-point game to lead the Bobcats in scoring in the victory at Agganis Arena.
Andrew Shortridge (Anchorage, Alaska) came up big for the Bobcats between the pipes as he made 31 saves, including 16 in the third period after he made 15 through the first two periods. Shortridge also picked up an assist to give him helpers in two of the last three games.
Freshmen Desi Burgart (North Vancouver, British Columbia) and Daniel Winslow (Fairfield, Connecticut) also scored for the Bobcats the Bobcats picked up their first-ever win against the Terriers.

- (3:34, 1st period) – Quinnipiac 1, Boston U. 0: Peter DiLiberatore (Bedford, Nova Scotia) carried the puck up the right boards for the Bobcats and shuffled a pass up to Burgart where he skated right up to the end line and snuck a backhanded shot between Boston University goaltender Jake Oettinger and the post.
- (12:37, 1st period) – Quinnipiac 2, Boston U. 0: Fortunato doubled the Bobcats lead with 7:23 to go in the period after the Bobcats controlled possession in the offensive zone. William Fällström (Stockholm, Sweden) wired a pass from the left circle to Fortunato at the point where he rifled a shot through traffic past Oettinger's glove side.
- (14:47, 1st period) – Quinnipiac 2, Boston U. 1: The Terriers got a goal back as Patrick Curry batted home the puck out of mid-air with the shaft of his stick off a Ty Amonte feed from the corner.
- (18:07, 1st period) – Quinnipiac 2, Boston U. 2: Amonte got a goal of his own for the Terriers with 1:53 to play in the first period on a shorthanded goal. The Bobcats turned over the puck in the defensive zone on the power play breakout and Max Willman controlled the puck before finding Amonte for the goal
- (6:22, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 3, Boston U. 2: After missing the past five games, Winslow returned to the lineup and scored the go-ahead goal for the Bobcats. Forunato hit Chase Priskie (Pembroke Pines, Florida) for a pass and he raced the puck into the offensive zone. Priskie fired a cross-ice pass to Winslow on the back door where he tipped home the puck past Oettinger.
- (7:35, 3rd period) – Quinnipiac 3, Boston U. 3: Shane Bowers tied the game near the midway point of the third period with a rocket from the left faceoff circle off a perfect feed from Ryan Cloonan.
- (19:57.5, 3rd period) – Quinnipiac 4, Boston U. 3: Fortunato provided the heroics for the Bobcats in the waning seconds of regulation. After starting the breakout and hitting Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) with a pass on the win, Tufto found Wyatt Bongiovanni (Birmingham, Michigan) for a shot. Ethan de Jong (North Vancouver, British Columbia) got a piece of the rebound before Fortunato jammed home the puck.
- Saturday marked Quinnipiac's first-ever win against Boston University in their fourth all-time meeting since 2015
- Fortunato set a career-high with 23 career points on the season, surpassing his previous best of 22 points from his sophomore year at Boston University
- Fortunato's two-goal game was the first such game of his career while he recorded three points in a game for a third time this season
- His game-winning goal with 2.5 seconds left was Quinnipiac's latest regulation game-winning goal since Yuri Bouharevich '12 scored the game-winning goal with 2.4 seconds remaining in a 3-2 victory over Rensselaer on Dec. 3, 2011
- Shortridge recorded 31 saves Saturday night for his fourth 30-plus save game of the season
- He also added an assist for his second point of the season to tie for the national lead among goaltenders with two assists and two points
- Burgart put home his second goal of the season early in the first period, scoring his first since his goal against Colgate on Dec. 29.
- Winslow returned to the lineup for the Bobcats in a big way, scoring his first goal since Nov. 9 against Rensselaer
- Priskie added an assist for his 28th point of the season on his 15th assist, remaining tied for second on the team in points
- DiLiberatore recorded his third point in the last four games with an assist on Burgart's goal and now has eight assists on the season
- de Jong recorded an assist on the game-winning goal, tapping the puck to Fortunato for the winner
- He now has points in four straight games and is up to 18 points on the season with 11 assists
- Bongiovanni also picked up a point for a second straight game with his fifth helper of the year and now has four points over his last five games
- Fällström also has four points over the last five games with an assist Saturday night
- Whelan recorded his eighth point of the season and is now the seventh Bobcat with at least 15 points
- The Bobcats return home to Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena Tuesday night to take on the Holy Cross Crusaders
