The Last Time Quinnipiac Played
- The Bobcats are coming off a 0-0-2 weekend that featured a 1-1 tie against No. 20 Clarkson and a 0-0 tie against No. 14 St. Lawrence to move to 11-0-2 overall and 4-0-2 in ECAC Hockey play.
- Against Clarkson, freshman Luke Shiplo (Oakville, Ontario) scored the Bobcats' only goal, with assists from Tanner MacMaster (Calgary, Alberta) and K.J. Tiefenwerth (Bellmore, New York), with the Golden Knights leading, 1-0. The goal was the second of the week for Shiplo, who found the back of the net for the first time in his collegiate career against UConn on Tuesday, Nov. 17.
- Michael Garteig (Prince George, British Columbia) recorded 68 saves on 69 shots with a 0.35 GAA and .986 save percentage in three games last week. Against St. Lawrence on Nov. 21, Garteig recorded 36 saves, his second most in a game this season and was featured as the No. 4 play on SportsCenter's Top 10 plays of the night.
The Bobcats In The National Polls
- The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team maintained their ranking from the previous week in the USCHO.com poll, slotting into the No. 3 spot with five first-place votes on Nov. 23, 2015.
- The Bobcats were ranked No. 3 in the latest USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine College Hockey Poll in the sixth week of the poll, with 10 first-place votes.
The Bobcats In The PairWise Ranking
- Quinnipiac enters the week in the top spot in the PairWise Ranking.
- The PairWise Ranking is a system which attempts to mimic the method used by the NCAA Selection Committee to determine participants for the NCAA Division I men's hockey tournament. The PWR compares all teams by these criteria: record against common opponents, head-to-head competition, and the RPI.
- For each comparison won, a team receives one point. The final PWR ranking is based on the number of points (comparisons) won. Ties are settled by the RPI.
This Week In Bobcats Hockey
All-Time Against UMass
- Quinnipiac and UMass have faced each other eight times since their first meeting in 2009 with the Bobcats holding a 4-2-2 advantage in the all-time series.
- The Bobcats are 3-1-0 all-time at TD Bank Sports Center, with its only loss on its home ice coming last season, 3-2 on Nov. 28, 2014.
- The Bobcats are 1-1-1 all-time in Amherst, and 0-0-1 with a shoot-out win on neutral ice. The Bobcats defeated UMass in a shoot-out at last year's UConn Hockey Classic at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.
- In eight games all-time, the Bobcats have outscored UMass, 26-20.
- There has been one overtime game in the all-time series, which resulted in a 5-4 Bobcats win in the first game between the two teams on Nov. 28, 2009.
Scouting The University of Massachusetts Minutemen
- UMass enters the weekend with a record of 6-3-4 overall and 2-2-4 in eight Hockey East game's to date.
- The Minutemen have tied their last three games while their last win came on Nov. 7 against UConn, 5-3, on the road to complete the series sweep of the Huskies after a 4-2 win at home on Nov. 6.
- UMass was undefeated through its first five games (4-0-1) but have gone 2-3-3 since.
- Shane Walsh leads UMass with nine goals, while the senior forward has also dished out four assists for 13 points.
- Dennis Kravchenko leads UMass in assists (10) and points (17); Austin Plevy (6-7-13), Ray Pigozzi (5-8-13) and Dominic Trento (5-7-12) give UMass five double-digit scorers.
- In goal, freshman Nic Renyard is 4-2-4 with a 2.95 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage.
The Bobcats' 11-0-2 Record
- Quinnipiac's 11-0-2 record is currently the Bobcats' longest unbeaten streak to start a season all-time.
- The Bobcats' current 13-game unbeaten streak is the second-longest in Quinnipiac history, following the Bobcats 21-game unbeaten streak (18-0-3) in 2012-13 that ran from Nov. 9 through Feb. 9.
- Through 13 games, Quinnipiac has outscored its opponents 53-20, with four goals in 10 of its 13 games.

Michael Garteig
- Michael Garteig (Prince George, British Columbia) enters the weekend with a record of 11-0-2 with a 1.45 goals-against average and a .940 save percentage and three shutouts. He also has two assists for the year.
- Last week, the Bobcats' goalie was in goal for all but one period of the Bobcats' last five games, which were all played over the last nine days.
- In that span, Garteig was 3-0-2 with 0.83 GAA after allowing just four goals in 289:44 between the pipes and also posted a .965 save percentage after stopping 109 of 113 shots-on-goal. Two of the four goals allowed by Garteig came with the Bobcats' playing a man-down.
- For his career, Garteig is 57-21-11 with a 1.94 GAA and a .917 save percentage in 5,450:29 minutes over 94 career games.
- Garteig currently leads all NCAA Division I goalies in wins (11), while ranking tied for third in shutouts (3), fifth in GAA (1.40) and eighth in save percentage (.940).
- Garteig is one of four players in NCAA Division I men's ice hockey to log 99% or higher of his team's total minutes in goal, of those teams with eight or more games played.
- Garteig recorded a career-best 41-save shutout of St. Cloud State on Oct. 25.
- Garteig was named the ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week on Oct. 27.
- He was also named the ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Month for October.
- The senior goalie's 13th career shutout against Maine also made him the fifth goalie in Quinnipiac history to reach 50 career wins. He joins J.C. Wells (59), Jamie Holden (59), Bud Fisher (58) and Eric Hartzell (58).
- Garteig was named to the Mike Richter Award Watch List on Thursday, Oct. 8. The award is given annually to the top NCAA Division I goalie in the country.
- To date, Garteig ranks fifth among active NCAA Division I goals with a 1.90 career goals-against average, but is the only one of the top five with more than 1,191 minutes in goal.
- Only one other goalie in NCAA Division I men's ice hockey - Michigan State's Jake Hildebrand with 6,258 - has played for minutes than Garteig's 5,450 minutes in net. UMassLowell's Kevin Boyle (5,081) is the only other goalie with 5,000 minutes in goal.
- Garteig's 57 wins rank first among all active goalies.
Travis St. Denis
- Senior assistant captain Travis St. Denis (Trail, British Columbia) is currently tied with Sam Anas and Tim Clifton with a team-high eight goals to date. St. Denis has added six assists for 14 points.
- With a goal and an assist against UConn, the senior forward enters the weekend with 46 goals and 44 assists for 90 points in 131 career games.
- Among all NCAA Division I men's ice hockey student-athletes, St. Denis ranks 10th in career goals (46) and seventh in career power play goals (15). He is also one of just 20 players in the country with 45 career goals or higher.
Sam Anas
- With a two-goal, one-assist showing against UConn on Tuesday night, 2015 All-American Sam Anas (Potomac, Maryland) sits atop the Bobcats' leader board with 15 points - coming on eight goals and seven assists.
- Anas has tallied a point in 10 of Quinnipiac's first 11 games, highlighted by a two-goal, one-assist three-point night against Holy Cross and a two-assist outing against St. Cloud State.
- Against Harvard on Friday, Nov. 13, Anas became the 17th Quinnipiac player all-time and 11th player at the NCAA Division I level to score 50 goals, doing so in 87 games.
- Anas is the Bobcats' active leading scorer with 53 goals and 44 assists for 97 points in 89 career games.
- Anas ranks fifth among active players with 53 career goals while his 0.60 goal-per-game average puts him tied with Harvard's Jimmy Vesey.
- Anas currently ranks second among active players with 23 career power play goals.
- In 2015, Anas is one of two NCAA Division I men's ice hockey juniors - along with Union's Mike Vecchione - to rank in the Top 20 in career points and is the only junior in the Top 10.
Tim Clifton
- Bobcats junior Tim Clifton (Matawan, New Jersey) saw a seven-game goal streak come to an end this past weekend. The streak was the second longest in Quinnipiac's Division I history following Chris Cerrella's 11-game goal streak in 1999-00.
- Clifton scored in both games of the Bobcats' season-opening weekend against Holy Cross before missing the next four games to injury. Since returning, he's scored in each of the Bobcats last four games, totaling five goals and an assist.
- For the year, Clifton has scored eight goals and tallied three assists for 10 points in seven games. For his career, he has 20 goals and 18 assists for 38 points in 84 career games.
Connor Clifton
- Bobcats junior defenseman Connor Clifton (Matawan, New Jersey) has blown past his 2014-15 point totals (0-5), accumulating three goals and six assists for nine points in the first 13 games of the year.
- Clifton saw a six-game point streak - the longest of his career - fall with a scoreless showing against Harvard. Clifton scored an empty-net goal against Dartmouth and again against UConn to give him a point in eight of Quinnipiac's first 13 games.
- Clifton had an assist in a 3-2 win against Colgate on Friday, Nov. 13 before scoring the game-winner in overtime against Cornell in a 5-4 win in Ithaca, New York.
- Clifton also leads the Bobcats with a 10, while he has been to the penalty box just four times in 13 games. Entering the season, he had piled up 54 penalties in 74 games through his first two seasons.
- Clifton was chosen in the 5th Round of the 2013 NHL Draft by the Phoenix Coyotes.
- He was the first Quinnipiac freshman to join the Bobcats directly from the prestigious U.S. National Developmental Team.
Chase Priskie
- Quickly making a name for himself, freshman defenseman Chase Priskie (Pembroke Pines, Florida) has passed out a team-leading 11 assists, while also scoring once, for 13 points through his first 13 career games.
- Priskie had assists against Harvard and Dartmouth, which followed a three-assist outing against Cornell to give him six in his last six games.
- The last freshman with three assists in a game was Sam Anas at Colgate on Nov. 1, 2013.
- The last Quinnipiac defenseman with three assists in a game was Zach Tolkinen against UMass on Nov. 30, 2013.
Derek Smith
- Derek Smith checks in with nine assists from the blue line. The Bobcats' junior defenseman saw a four-game point streak end at Colgate but has dished out five assists in his last six games.
- Smith totaled 13 assists in 36 games as a sophomore last year but sits second in the Bobcats' line-up with nine helpers.
- Smith sits in the Bobcats' history books as the first player in program history to have scored on his first two shots on goal, which came in his second and third collegiate games.
K.J. Tiefenwerth
- K.J. Tiefenwerth has accumulated a goal and three assists in seven games in November, giving him three goals and five assists for eight points for the year.
- Tiefenwerth transferred to Quinnipiac from UMass prior to the start of the 2013-14 season.
Tanner MacMaster
- Tanner MacMaster opened the season with a three-game point streak before tallying just one point in his next seven games. He then posted assists in back-to-back games against UConn and Clarkson last week.
- For the year, MacMaster has six assists, leaving him one shy of his total as a freshman in 2014-15.
Luke Shiplo
- Freshman Luke Shiplo(Oakville, Ontario) was named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015.
- Shiplo led all NCAA Division I and ECAC Hockey freshmen in goals (2), while also leading ECAC Hockey first-year players in points (2) and plus/minus ( 2) last weekend.
- He scored his first-career goal against Connecticut on Tuesday, Nov. 14 before scoring the neutralizer in a 1-1 tie against nationally-ranked No. 20 Clarkson last Friday.
- Shiplo is the second Bobcats freshman to earn Rookie of the Week honors after Thomas Aldworth was named the league's top rookie, and also earning Player of the Week honors, on Oct. 20, 2015.
