Home and Home Showdown
The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team heads into its third weekend of ECAC Hockey play with a pair of games against its travel partner, the Princeton Tigers. The Bobcats will host the Tigers on Friday, Nov. 13 at 3 P.M. at High Point Solutions Arena before the two teams travel down to Princeton, New Jersey to play at Hobey Baker Rink on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 3 P.M.
All-Time Against Princeton
Quinnipiac has enjoyed some of its best success against one opponent when facing the Princeton Tigers, particular in the last six seasons where the Bobcats are 12-1-1 including currently riding a 12 game unbeaten streak and five game winning streak. Overall, the Bobcats are 12-10-3 against the Tigers after starting off the series between the two teams by going 0-9-2 in the first 11 games. Last season, the Bobcats were a perfect 4-0-0 against the Tigers, outscoring them 14-1. The Bobcats skated to 2-0 and 3-1 wins in the regular season before pouring in a 7-0 win in Game One of the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals on Feb. 27. The Bobcats completed the sweep the following day to advance to the ECAC Hockey semifinals. Eight different players scored a goal in the last season's series between the two teams and 14 different players recorded at least one point.
Scouting the Tigers
At 5-1-0, the Tigers are off to their best six-game start since 1998-99, when they also started with the same record. The only other time the Tigers started with a six-game start of 5-1-0 was their second season ever in 1980-81. Freshman Karlie Lund leads the way offensively for Princeton with three goals and four assists for seven points. Morgan Sly and Kelsey Koelzer have each also scored three goals, with the three players combining for more than half of Princeton's goal scoring. Seven different players, including Lund, have recorded at least three points already this season. Sly is tied with Stephanie Sucharda for second on the team with four points, as Sly has tallied three goals and one assist for four points while Sucharda has one goal and three assists for four points. Kimberly Newell continues to play well between the pipes for the Tigers in her senior season as she is 4-0-0 in her four games this season. Newell has compiled a 2.00 GAA with a .932 save percentage after recording 110 saves. The penalty kill has been one of the biggest strengths for the Tigers this season, killing of 26 of the 27 penalties faced while the power play has struggled, going just 3 for 27 for 11.1 percent.

Bobcats in the Polls
For the seventh consecutive week this season, the Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team was ranked in the top 10 of both the USCHO.com Division I Women's Poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, checking in at No. 8 in each. The Bobcats have been ranked in the top 10 of the USCHO.com Poll for 52 consecutive weeks. In this week's poll, Quinnipiac is one of just four schools to have both their men's and women's ice hockey teams ranked in the top 10 of the USCHO.com Division I Women's Poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine College Hockey Poll.
Bobcats in the Pairwise
The Bobcats check into the latest PairWise rankings at No. 9, as of the completion of Tuesday's games. Princeton (No. 5) and Clarkson (No. 6) are the only ECAC Hockey teams above the Bobcats in the Pairwise rankings. The USCHO.com Pairwise Ranking attempts to mimic the method used by the NCAA Selection Committee to determine participants for the NCAA Division I women's hockey tournament.
DIFD
This past weekend, the Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team held their second annual "Do It For Daron" weekend, which raised money and awareness of mental health. The Bobcats raised $955 between last year's and this year's weekends, which will be donated to an event next year called "Fresh Check Day," as Daron's mother, Steph Richardson, wanted to see the money go to raising awareness for mental health on the Quinnipiac campus.
Blades of Glory
Former forward Brittany Lyons returned to the professional ranks this past weekend as she signed a one-year contract with the Canadian Women's Hockey League's defending champion Boston Blades. Lyons is fourth in Quinnipiac women's ice hockey history with 39 goals and eighth in points with 67. In her career, she scored 10 power play goals, good for seventh in program history.
God Bless The U.S.A
Another former player shined brightly over the week as Shiann Darkangelo won a gold medal with the United States Women's Hockey National Team at the Four Nations Cup in Sundsvall, Sweden. Darkangelo recorded an assist during the tournament in which the United States was a perfect 4-0 and outscored opponents, 19-4.
How Swede it is
Former forward Erica Uden Johansson also competed at the Four Nations Cup, suiting up once again for the Swedish National Team and playing the tournament in her hometown. By the end of the tournament, it was Uden Johansson's 99th game for Sweden. Uden Johansson scored three goals in the tournament, all against Finland, including scoring a pair of goals in the bronze medal game. Uden Johansson's three goals was half of Sweden's offensive output in the Four Nations Cup.
Ross the Boss
Sydney Rossman returned to her stellar ways this past weekend as she allowed just one goal in 125 minutes between the pipes. Rossman made 41 saves on the 42 shots she faced this past weekend, her second most saves in a weekend this season. The 41 saves led to a .976 save percentage and a near perfect 0.48 GAA. Rossman was one of just two goaltenders to go 1-0-1 on the weekend as she was one of the top goaltenders in the league. Rossman also picked up her second shutout of the season after the Bobcats and Colgate Raiders skated to a 0-0 tie in overtime.
Back in the Saddle Again
Nicole Kosta got right back to her scoring ways on Saturday evening as the Bobcats' forward scored the game-tying goal and assisted the game-winning goal for her second multiple-point game of the season. Kosta's five goals in nine games puts her average 0.56 per game, good for 24th in the country and second on the team.
Taylar-made
The Bobcats dynamic goal scorer Taylar Cianfarano found the scoresheet once again with a highlight reel goal on Saturday night to cap off the Bobcats three goal onslaught in under five minutes. Cianfarano now has eight goals for the Bobcats and 14 points, both good for the team lead. She is also one of the best in the country as she ranks 12th in points per game (1.56) and eighth in goals per game (0.89). Among the conference, Cianfarano leads all skaters in goals per game and is second in points per game, as well as scoring the second most goals (8) and recording the fourth most points (14).
Samo's Club
Just like Cianfarano last season, Melissa Samoskevich has been one of the top freshman in the country as she ranks 15th in points per game (1.44), fifth in assists per game (1.11), tied for fifth in game-winning goals (2) and second in points per game by a rookie (1.44). Samoskevich increased her assist total with her 10th helper of the season against Cornell on Saturday. Samoskevich leads the team in assists and is second on the team in points (13). She is tied for third in the conference in assists and tied for fifth in points (13) while her 1.11 assists per game leads all skaters and she is third in points per game. Even better, Samoskevich leads all league freshman in assists, points, assists per game, points per game, power play assists (3) and power play points (3).
Woodstock
The third member of that impressive line for the Bobcats, Emma Woods, has been just as spectacular as her linemates, Samoskevich and Cianfarano. Woods has four goals and six assists for 10 points, ranking second on the team in assists and points. Woods has been one of the most balanced scorers in her career, scoring 28 goals and assisting 31 more for 59 points, putting her scoring ratio at nearly one goal for every assist.
