HAMDEN, Connecticut – The No. 8/8 Quinnipiac women' ice hockey team battled to a 1-1 tie in overtime Friday evening in a top 10 showdown with the No. 10/10 Princeton Tigers at High Point Solutions Arena.
With the tie, the Bobcats record now sits at 6-1-3 (2-1-2 ECAC Hockey) while the Tigers pick up their first tie of the season to move to 5-1-1 (3-1-1 ECAC Hockey).
Meghan Turner (Bedford, New Hampshire) scored the lone goal for the Bobcats with her fourth tally of the season. Turner has now scored at least four goals in every season since joining the Bobcats in the 2013-14 season. Turner's first period tally is her second straight game with a goal after scoring the game-winning goal against Cornell on Nov. 7.
Cydney Roesler (Stittsville, Ontario) and Nicole Brown (Oshawa, Ontario) picked up both assists for the Bobcats as Roesler's assist was her sixth of the season to give her eight points, tying her assist mark from last season. Brown's helper was her second of the season and the 32nd of her career.
In goal for the Bobcats, Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) allowed just one goal to continue her solid play between the pipes as the junior picked up 19 saves. Rossman has allowed just one goal in the past two games and has allowed one or fewer goals in eight of the Bobcats' 10 games this season.
The Bobcats struck with 6:04 left in the first period to take a 1-0 which they held for much of the game. After working the puck around the offensive zone, Brown cycled the puck from the right faceoff circle to Roesler at the point. Roesler fired a shot on goal that was saved by Princeton goaltender Kimberly Newell, one of her 30 saves she made on the night. After the save, Newell kicked out a rebound that was tucked home by Turner to give the Bobcats a lead.
Princeton scored the equalizer with just 7:20 left in the third period to tie the game, 1-1. While trying to clear the puck, the Bobcats turned the puck over in the neutral zone where Princeton's freshman standout Karlie Lund skated the puck into the right faceoff circle and rifled a shot over Rossman's glove, off the crossbar and in to tie the game.
Despite the 1-1 tie, the Bobcats outshot the Tigers 31-20 and held the advantage in shots in every period except for the overtime period.
The Bobcats and Tigers will travel down to Princeton, New Jersey where they will complete the home and home series on Saturday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink with puck drop scheduled for 3 P.M.
