Bobcats Down Michigan at Frozen Four, Advance to National Title Game

TAMPA, Fla. – The Bobcats are headed back to the national championship game.
The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey program defeated Michigan, 5-2, in the semifinal round of the 2023 Frozen Four on Thursday, April 6 inside Amalie Arena.
Sophomore Jacob Quillan scored twice in the first period for QU, then Sam Lipkin, Zach Metsa and Ethan de Jong netted goals in the third period of play.
With the win, the Bobcats advance to their third-ever national championship game (2013, 2016, 2023). Quinnipiac is now 3-0 all-time in the semifinal round of the Frozen Four.
Quinnipiac will now advance to the national championship game to take on Minnesota. Puck drop is slated for 8:00 PM ET on Saturday, April 8 at Amalie Arena. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2.

- Period 1: QUINNIPIAC 1, MICHIGAN 0 – The Bobcats got on the board first, as Jacob Quillan banked a shot off the back of Michigan goaltender Erik Portillo 5:18 into the first period. Jayden Lee and Cristophe Tellier each earned an assist on the play.
- Period 1: QUINNIPIAC 1, MICHIGAN 1 – Michigan's Seamus Carey scored just over a minute later to tie things 1-1.
- Period 1: QUINNIPIAC 2, MICHIGAN 1 – Jacob Quillan scored again with 8:39 left in the first period to give QU another advantage. Collin Graf and Sam Lipkin both earned a helper on the goal – Quillan's seventh over Quinnipiac's last seven games.
- Period 2: QUINNIPIAC 2, MICHIGAN 2 – Michigan responded in the second period, as Adam Fantilli found the back of the net with 9:45 left in the second period.
- Period 3: QUINNIPIAC 3, MICHIGAN 2 – Sam Lipkin registered his 14th goal of the season 1:24 into the third period. Lipkin banked a shot off Portillo from behind the goal – with assists going to both Jacob Quillan and Collin Graf to give QU its third lead of the evening.
- Period 3: QUINNIPIAC 4, MICHIGAN 2 – Graduate student Zach Metsa potted the Bobcats' fourth goal of the night to make it a two-goal cushion. Christophe Fillion and Cristophe Tellier both recorded assists
- Period 3: QUINNIPIAC 5, MICHIGAN 2 – Ethan de Jong scored an empty-netter to punctuate the win.
- Jacob Quillan's four goals in a single NCAA Tournament ties a Quinnipiac record. Matthew Peca also scored four times during the Bobcats' 2013 run to the national championship contest.
- Jacob Quillan is now up to 20 career goals. He's scored seven times in the last seven games.
- Sam Lipkin is up to 41 career points after a one goal, one assist effort. The first-year forward has two goals and four assists during Quinnipiac's three NCAA Tournament contests so far this year.
- Collin Graf and Cristophe Tellier each chipped in with two assists in the victory. Graf is up to 80 career points.
- Christophe Fillion and Jayden Lee each added a helper.
