Late Rally Pushes Bobcats Past Canisius on the Road, 69-53

BUFFALO, N.Y. – A late run proved to be the difference, as Quinnipiac women's basketball used a 14-0 run in the fourth quarter to down Canisius on the road, 69-53, Saturday afternoon inside of the Koessler Athletic Center.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 9-6 overall on the season and 4-2 in the MAAC, while the Golden Griffins fell to 6-9 overall and 3-3 in conference play. Quinnipiac saw three reach double-figures in scoring, led by Mikala Morris' 17 points. Mary Baskerville and Ella O'Donnell contributed 12 points apiece in the victory.
WIth the game tied at 4-4 nearly four minutes into the contest, Mary Baskerville checked in and provided an immediate spark from off the bench. The fifth-year transfer checked in and sparked a 6-0 run, scoring all six points on three consecutive possessions to push Quinnipiac ahead 10-4 with 4:31 remaining in the frame.
Quinnipiac outscored Canisius 6-5 the rest of the period to carry a 16-9 lead into the second quarter. With Quinnipiac holding a 20-13 lead in the second, Canisius went on an 8-3 rally, cutting its deficit to 23-21, forcing Quinnipiac to call a timeout. The Golden Griffins were able to keep it close, cutting their deficit to 29-28 entering the half.
With Quinnipiac trailing 33-31 in the third quarter, the Bobcats went on a 7-2 run, capped by an Ella O'Donnell fastbreak bucket to take a 38-35 lead.
The Bobcats' run extended to 18-6 into the end of the quarter, taking a 49-39 advantage into the fourth. Quinnipiac held Canisius to 2-for-10 (20.0%) shooting for six points during the stretch.
The Golden Griffins used the opening 5:40 of the fourth quarter to go on a 13-6 run to trim the Bobcats' lead to 55-52 at the media timeout. After Canisius cut the Quinnipiac lead to 55-53, the Bobcats responded with a swift 12-0 run, extending their lead to 67-53 with just under a minute remaining in regulation.
The deficit proved to be too much for the Golden Griffins, as the Bobcats held on for the eventual 69-53 victory.
