Bobcats Down UConn, Clinch Second Consecutive CT Ice Crown

QU's third period rally eliminates UConn 4-3
HAMDEN, Conn. — For the second consecutive season, the No. 3/4 Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team are the champions of Connecticut.
The Bobcats knocked off No. 12 UConn by a 4-3 scoreline, scoring a pair of third-period goals to clinch the championship for the second consecutive season. Ethan de Jong tied it with his second of the night and Jake Johnson won it with a top-corner shot from the point with 4:31 to go.
Zach Metsa finished the night with three assists, while de Jong added an assist to match him with three points. Skyler Brind'Amour also had a multi-point contest, scoring the first goal and assisting on the game-winner.

Quinnipiac returns to ECAC play this weekend with a Top 10 battle on its hands, as No. 10 Harvard awaits on Friday night. The Bobcats will then head to Dartmouth for a Saturday night battle. Both games can be seen live on ESPN+, while Saturday night's contest can also be seen on NESN.

de Jong had a pair of goals on the night, helping earn him Most Outstanding Player accolades on the weekend. STATS AND NOTES
- The Bobcats stand as the only, multi-time winner of CT Ice, earning the title during the 2021-22 campaign as well. Sacred Heart won the inaugural tournament in 2019-20.
- Metsa added his fourth career, three-assist contest and second of the season. He had a trio of helpers two weeks ago against LIU on Jan. 14.
- The Bobcats are 28-2-2 at home since the start of last season and are unbeaten on home ice this season at 11-0-1. Their 11-game home winning streak is the longest active stretch in the country.
- de Jong's multi-goal contest is his third of the season and fifth of his career. Both are tops amongst the active Quinnipiac roster.
- QU's defense blocked 20 shots on the night, one off its season-high of 21 blocked at Princeton on Nov. 18.
- Collin Graf joined Metsa and de Jong on the weekend's All-Tournament team. He adds that to his Most Outstanding Player honor at the Friendship Four in November.
- Brind'Amour recorded his 15th multi-point performance of the season, passing Michael Lombardi for third-most among active Bobcats.
- Quinnipiac improved to 4-1-0 in one-goal games this season.
