HAMDEN, Conn. — The No. 1 Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey program heads to New York's Southern Tier on Friday and Saturday night, taking on No. 14/15 Cornell on Friday before heading to Colgate on Saturday. Quinnipiac puts its eight-game winning streak and unbeaten league record on the line in the return contests of a November weekend.
Quinnipiac erased a 2-0 deficit to defeat Colgate 3-2 on Nov. 4 before blanking the Big Red 2-0 on Nov. 5. Jacob Quillan led the Bobcats with a pair of goals against Cornell, while Collin Graf, Zach Metsa and Ethan de Jong each had two-point nights.
WE WANT YOU... TO VOTE FOR BOBCATS
The 2023 Hobey Baker Award voting process has begun and the Bobcats have two on the ballot, with sophomores Collin Graf and Yaniv Perets eligible for college hockey's most prestigious award.
Graf is currently second in the nation in assists per game (1.00) and third in points per game (1.50), while Perets paces the nation in goalie winning percentage (.886) and is second in shutouts (four) and third in goals-against average (1.67).
THE KIDS OF HAMDEN
With a combined 3.5 years of college hockey experience after the first half of 2022-23 concluded, the line of youngsters Collin Graf, Jacob Quillan and Sam Lipkin is leading the Bobcat offense, with the three making up the top of the scoring leaderboard.
The sophomores lead the way, with Graf (33) and Quillan (23) standing first and third. Lipkin, in his first collegiate season, is fourth with 22 points. Quillan and Graf lead the team with 11 goals on the year. The three combine for 78 of QU's 256 points (30.5 percent).
ATOP THE RANKINGS
In addition to being atop both national polls and No. 2 in the Pairwise entering the weekend, the Bobcats are in the Top 2 nationally in seven statistical categories, including leading the nation in scoring defense (1.73), scoring margin (2.41) and winning percentage (.886).
They are second nationally in faceoff win percentage (.567) scoring offense (4.14), total assists (165) and total points (256).
THE GOLDEN START
Sophomore goaltender Yaniv Perets made his 50th start on Dec. 30 when the Bobcats took on Holy Cross and is already rewriting the Quinnipiac record books in his second season.
The Dollard-des-Ormaneux, Quebec native broke the single-season record with 11 shutouts to his name a season ago, becoming the first Quinnipiac goalie with double digits in that category. His 1.39 goals-against average and .932 save percentage are currently tops in the Division I career category leaderboards.
POWERED UP
Collin Graf and Ethan de Jong have each been a focal point on the Bobcats' second-ranked power play in the ECAC. Graf is second in the league and sixth nationally with six power play goals, while de Jong is third in the league with five.
Both are the leaders on a Bobcats power play unit that is fourth in the country, converting 26.3 percent of opportunities. That mark leads the ECAC.
