Former Enfield High School Product Chooses to Transfer to QU
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's basketball program has announced the addition of center Mary Baskerville (Enfield, Conn.), as revealed by Head Coach Tricia Fabbri on Monday, May 23, 2022.
Baskerville will join the Bobcats with one year of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer for the upcoming 2022-23 season after spending her previous four campaigns at Providence College out of the BIG EAST. A native of Connecticut, the 6-foot-3 post starred at nearby Enfield High School, where she graduated with four letterwinners, two All-State selections and left as the school's all-time leader in career points with 1,870.
"We are thrilled to welcome Mary to Quinnipiac University and our Bobcat basketball family," Fabbri said. "She brings a bevy of battle tested experience from her successful career in the BIG EAST."
"We are excited to see the impact she will have on our program and are happy to offer her the opportunity to improve her education at Quinnipiac. She will bolster an already formidable frontline and make us even more competitive in both our non-conference and MAAC schedule."
A dominant force for four years in the BIG EAST, it did not take Baskerville long to adjust to high major Div. I competition after graduating high school. As a first-year for the Friars during the 2018-19 season, Baskerville led the team in rebounding (7.3 rpg), blocked shots (1.5 bpg), double-doubles (six) and field-goal percentage (.580). Her .580 mark from the field and 53 blocked shots that season stand as the program's all-time record by a freshman in both categories, respectively.
That season she recorded 17 double-digit scoring games and eight double-digit rebounding games en route to earning five BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors and eventually BIG EAST Rookie of the Year honors.
That following season, she led the team in scoring (11.8 ppg), rebounding (7.6 rpg), blocked shots (1.8 bpg) and field-goal percentage (.516, 126-244) while playing in just 20.47 minutes per game. Baskerville's 1.8 blocks per game was tops in the BIG EAST, while her 51 blocks that season ranked third in the conference, as she became the first player in program history to record 50+ blocked shots in back-to-back seasons, with 51 in 2019-20 and 53 in 2018-19.
Baskerville only improved heading into the 2020-21 season, where she led the team in scoring (12.7 ppg), rebounding (6.5 rpg), blocked shots (1.8 bpg), steals (1.4 spg) and field-goal percentage (.538, 112-208). That season, she became just the second player in Providence's program history to lead the team in scoring, rebounding, blocked shots, steals and field-goal percentage in a single season. She went on to lead the BIG EAST in blocked shots per game for the second-straight year (1.8 bpg) and finished 56th among NCAA Division I players, and 60th in total blocks (of 247 ranked), earning All-BIG EAST Second Team distinction.
Despite battling injuries last season, Baskerville appeared in 23 games and led the BIG EAST in blocks per game for the third consecutive season. Upon graduating in May, Baskerville finished her career with the Friars ranked 28th all-time in scoring (1,077 points) and 13th all-time in rebounding (723 rebounds). She also set the Providence program record for career field-goal percentage (.528, 440-834).
Baskerville is the second addition to the Bobcats' program ahead of the 2022-23 season. Baskerville will join a Quinnipiac roster that returns 12 members from last season's team, including Mackenzie DeWees and Rose Caverly, who each announced their returns to Quinnipiac on March 29 and April 18.
