Caverly Opts To Return to QU for 2022-23 Season

HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac women's basketball guard Rose Caverly has announced her return to the Bobcats for her fifth season of eligibility.
A native of Brick, N.J., Caverly announced her return to Hamden on social media. Caverly will be taking advantage of an NCAA waiver that allows student-athletes who competed during the 2020-21 season to use an extra year of eligibility.
"Even though my collegiate career did not begin at Quinnipiac, this is the most at home I've felt, and I've been so fortunate to have played here for the last two years," Caverly said. "This coaching staff and team has invested and brought the best out of me. I am forever grateful for the love this program has to offer. I still feel like we have unfinished business to attend to, and I am definitely not ready to leave Quinnipiac. I am so happy to be coming back to play the game I love at the school I love with the people I love for another year."
She will enter the 2022-23 season as a graduate student. Caverly joined the Bobcats for the 2019-20 season as a sophomore transfer by way of the University of Vermont, but had to sit out the season due to the NCAA's transfer rules at the time. Once eligible for the 2020-21 campaign, Caverly made her presence felt immediately. In her first game with the Bobcats, Caverly scored a team-best 20 points en route to a win over Providence on Nov. 25, 2020. That season, Caverly went on to earn All-MAAC Third Team honors after averaging 10.4 points, 4.6 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game in 21 starts.
This past season, Caverly averaged 8.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game for the Bobcats. She also averaged 3.8 assists per game, which was tops on the team and ranked fourth in the MAAC. Regarded as one of the top playmakers in the MAAC, Caverly's 1.9 assist-to-turnover margin ranked second in the conference.
Caverly became Quinnipiac's go-to scorer in the WNIT this year, as she averaged 22.0 points per game, while shooting 48.0% from the field and 56.3% from beyond the arc in two games during the tournament. Caverly notched a game-high 18 points in Quinnipiac's win over URI in the opening round of the WNIT on March 18. Caverly followed that outing with a career-high 26 points against Boston College in the second round of the WNIT. In the game against Boston College, Caverly knocked down a career-high six three-pointers, tying the program-record for most made three-pointers in a game.
Since joining the Bobcats, Rose has tallied 510 points, 226 assists, 186 rebounds and 47 steals in 54 starts for Quinnipiac, never missing a game. Caverly tallied 100 assists in her first season with Quinnipiac, then followed with 126 dimes this past year, becoming the first player in program-history to tally at least 100 assists in back-to-back seasons since Gillian "Boo" Abshire did so for four consecutive seasons (2011-2015).
