DeWees To Remain at QU for Fifth Year

HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac women's basketball guard Mackenzie DeWees has announced her return to the Bobcats for her fifth season of eligibility.
A native of Westminster, Maryland, DeWees announced her return to Hamden on social media. DeWees will be taking advantage of an NCAA waiver that allows student-athletes who competed during the 2020-21 season to use an extra year of eligibility.
"I am beyond excited to return to Quinnipiac for my fifth and final year of eligibility," DeWees said. "Hamden has been my home away from home since the moment I stepped on campus four years ago. I love the Bobcat community, my teammates, and my coaches who continue to invest in me on and off the court."
She will enter the 2022-23 season as a graduate student. The two-time All-MAAC First Team selection led the Bobcats in scoring (13.8 PPG) and steals (3.3 SPG) in 2021-22. DeWees surpassed 1,000 career points on March 9, 2022 vs. Saint Peter's in the MAAC Tournament Quarterfinals, becoming the 16th player in Division I history to reach the mark.
DeWees has scored 1,039 career points over four years at Quinnipiac, tallying 237 steals in that span. Her 237 career steals ranks third on the program's Div. I steals list. DeWees made huge strides in the category in 2021-22, posting 106 steals on the season.
Her 106 thefts ranked fourth in the nation and marked the first time a Quinnipiac player nabbed 100 steals in a season since Felicia Barron did so during the 2012-13 campaign. DeWees also trails Barron for the program record for steals in a game (12). DeWees nabbed a career-high nine steals against Saint Peter's on Jan. 13, 2022.
The 2020-21 MAAC Player of the Year, DeWees has checked in to 115 games at QU, needing to appear in just 21 more contests to break Aryn McClure ('19) and Adily Martucci's ('17) record for total games played (135 GP).
