HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's basketball team makes its 2022-23 home-opener inside of M&T Bank Arena on Saturday at 2 p.m., as the Bobcats play host to in-state foe Central Connecticut on ESPN+.
THE MATCHUP: vs. CCSU
- The Blue Devils enter the contest at 0-1 on the new campaign, after falling short in its opener, 72-57, this past Monday at UMass
- Dejah Jenkins led CCSU with 17 points and seven rebounds in the loss
- Forever Toppin contributed 10 points and four rebounds in the contest
- The Blue Devils were picked to finish eighth in the NEC coaches' preseason poll
- CCSU will have two of its starters from last season, Forever Toppin and Dejah Jenkins, returning to the court this year
- Toppin was also named to the 2022-23 Preseason All-NEC Women's Basketball Team after ending last season sixth in assists (3.3 per game), second in steals (1.9 per game), sixth in assist/turnover ratio (0.8), and 20th in minutes played (28.9 per game)
- Saturday's contest will mark the 29th contest between the two programs in their Div. I history
- Quinnipiac is 24-5 all-time against CCSU and 23-5 in its Div. I era
- Quinnipiac has won each of the last five contests against Central Connecticut, dating back to 2012
- The last time the Bobcats took the Blue Devils, Quinnipiac came away with a 79-50 victory on the road on Nov. 13, 2021
- Mackenzie DeWees led the way in the victory with 19 points, 11 rebounds and six steals
- Mikala Morris added 15 points, nine rebounds and two assists

- Quinnipiac opened the season at No. 10 NC State and fell short in the road contest, 82-45
- Quinnipiac was led by Cur'Tiera Haywood and Jackie Grisdale, who chipped in eight points apiece in the loss
- Mikala Morris added six points and a team-best seven rebounds in the loss
- Rose Caverly contributed five points, two rebounds and two assists
- Tiera White, Mary Baskerville and Makenzie Helms notched four points apiece
- Head coach Tricia Fabbri is in her 28th season at the helm of the Bobcats in 2022-23
- A five-time Coach of the Year (three in nine MAAC seasons) and all-time winningest coach in program history, Fabbri has totaled 482 career victories, thus far
- With a 21-12 record last season, Fabbri secured the program's 11th-straight winning season under her guidance
- Fabbri's Bobcats have reached the 20-win plateau in 11 seasons, including a run of eight straight seasons from 2011-2019
- With five NCAA Tournament appearances along with five WNIT berths, Fabbri has led QU to 10 postseason national tournaments in her tenure
- She has led Quinnipiac to five conference titles in the last 10 seasons and earned five consecutive MAAC Regular Season titles from 2015-2019
- With the win over Fordham in 2020, Fabbri became the 111th coach in DI women's basketball history to reach 450 career wins and the 26th to do it at one program
- Sophomore guard and Raleigh-native Reiven Douglas made her first collegiate start against her hometown team, #10 NC State, this past Monday
- A graduate of nearby Millbrook High School, Douglas knocked down a three-pointer and grabbed a rebound in the contest
- Graduate student Mackenzie DeWees opted to return to Quinnipiac for a fifth season over the summer
- Entering the 2022-23 campaign, DeWees was named to the preseason watch list for the 2023 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award presented by Her Hoop Stats
- DeWees was also a unanimous preseason All-MAAC First Team selection
- Last season DeWees garnered All-MAAC First Team honors for the second time in her career, becoming the second player in program-history to do so behind Aryn McClure ('19)
- Averaged 13.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 3.1 assists per game in 2021-22
- Was one of only two players in the country to average at least 13.0 points, 7.0 rebounds. 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game last season
- DeWees' 105 total steals and 3.4 steals per game places her fourth in the nation in both categories, respectively
- She's tallied five or more steals in nine of Quinnipiac's games, most recently tallying five thefts against Marist on Feb. 24
- Tallied 106 steals and averaged 3.31 steals per game, which ranked fourth and fifth in the nation
- DeWees was just the second player in Quinnipiac's Div. I history to tally 100+ steals in a season, becoming the first to do so since Felicia Barron ('13) totaled 119 thefts during the 2012-13 campaign
- DeWees has totaled 237 career steals, ranking third in the program's Div. I history
- DeWees became the 16th player in Quinnipiac's Div. I history to reach 1,000 career points on March 9, 2022 and currently sits in 16th with 1,039 points
- The Bobcats closed the regular season 13-4 in their last 17 games
- Quinnipiac averaged 68.4 points per game and outscored opponents by 10.8 points during that span
- The Bobcats had three players averaging double-figures in points over the last 17 regular season games, led by DeWees 14.5 points per game
- Mikala Morris averaged 11.9 points per game, followed by Amani Free's 10.1 points per game during the stretch
- The Bobcats held a five-game win streak, dating back to their 75-53 road victory over Saint Peter's on Jan. 17 through the Feb. 3 61-50 win over Marist
- Quinnipiac's win streak was tied for its second-longest in the last four seasons
- Graduate student Rose Caverly opted to return to Quinnipiac for a fifth season over the summer
- Entering the 2022-23 campaign, Caverly was named to the preseason All-MAAC Third Team
- She averaged 8.8 points, 3.8 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game in 2021-22 and shot 35.8% from beyond the arc and 79.7% from the charity stripe
- Caverly's 1.9 assist-to-turnover ratio ranked second in the MAAC last season
- She totaled 126 assists in 2021-22, becoming the first player in program-history to tally at least 100 assists in back-to-back seasons since Gillian "Boo" Abshire did so for four consecutive seasons from 2011-2015
- Caverly averaged 22.0 points per game, while shooting 48.0% from the field and 56.3% from beyond the arc in two games during the 2022 WNIT
- She scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds in win over URI in WNIT opening round (3/18/22)
- Caverly Scored career-high 26 points and tied program-record for most made three-pointers in a game (6) against URI in the second round of the WNIT (3/21/22)
- Entering the 2022-23 campaign, Mikala Morris was named to the preseason All-MAAC First Team
- Last season she averaged 11.7 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.6 blocks per game en route to earning All-MAAC Second Team honors
- The league's leader in double-doubles (13), Morris also finished the season ranked 9th in the MAAC in total points (386), first in blocked shots (53), and second in rebounds (315)
- With 315 rebounds, Morris became just the fourth player in the program's Div. I history to grab 300+ rebounds in a season
- With 315 rebounds and 53 blocks in 2021-22, Morris is the only player in Quinnipiac's Div. I history to grab 300+ rebounds and tally 50+ blocks in a season
- With 117 career blocks, Morris ranks seventh on the program's Div. I blocks list
HAYWOOD IS ALL GOOD
- Last season Cur'Tiera Haywood appeared in 27 games and averaged a career-high 8.1 points per game
- Last season Haywood shot 48.7% from the field and 35.3% from three, which ranked third and sixth in the MAAC
- She scored a career-high 31 points in a win over St. Peter's on Jan. 13, 2022
- Haywood is the first Bobcat to score 30+ points in a game since Jen Fay tallied 32 against Manhattan on Dec. 31, 2017
- Jackie Grisdale returns for her sophomore campaign after averaging 4.7 points and 1.6 rebounds per game en route to earning MAAC All-Rookie Team honors in 2021-22
- Earning MAAC All-Rookie Team honors, Jackie Grisdale became the first player in program history to earn all-conference honors as a walk-on
- Grisdale emerged as a consistent threat for the Bobcats, as she averaged 7.1 points per game, while shooting 45.8% from the field, 41.3% from three and 92.3% from the charity stripe over her last 16 regular season games played in 2021-22
- Grisdale scored a career-high 26 points off the bench in QU's 26-point comeback victory over Niagara on Jan. 29
- Grisdale scored 23 of her 26 points in the second half
- She knocked down six three-pointers in the contest, tying the single-game program record
- Graduate student Mary Baskerville announced that she would be transferring from Providence to Quinnipiac this past summer
- In her Quinnipiac debut at No. 10 NC State, she totaled four points and three blocks
- Baskerville graduated from Providence in 2022 with 1,077 points, 723 rebounds and 183 blocked shots
- Baskerville earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors as a junior in 2020-21
- That season she led the team in scoring (12.7 ppg), rebounding (6.5 rpg), blocked shots (1.8 bpg), steals (1.4 spg) and field-goal percentage (.538)
- Her 1.8 blocks per game that season was tops in the conference for the second-straight year
- As a sophomore in 2020-21, she ranked first on the team in scoring (11.8 ppg), rebounding (7.6 rpg), blocked shots (1.8 bpg) and field-goal percentage (.516) as a sophomore in 2019-20
- Baskerville ranked first in the BIG EAST and 49th in the nation in blocked shots per game (1.82) and third in the BIG EAST in overall blocks (51)
- Baskerville was named the 2019 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year at the conclusion of the 2018-19 campaign
- That season she led the Friars in rebounding (7.3 rpg), blocked shots (1.5 bpg), double-doubles (six) and field-goal percentage (.580)
- Her .580 field-goal percentage was the second-highest field-goal percentage in program history for a single-season
- Baskerville set the Providence College record for blocked shots in a season by a freshman, with 53
- The Bobcats added two first-year student-athletes prior to the 2022-23 season in Ella O'Donnell and Khadijah Tungo
- A native of Shankill, Ireland, O'Donnell is a member of the Irish women's basketball national team
- She made her Irish senior women's national team debut at 18 in 2022
- Served as vice captain with Ireland u18 team at European championships in Czech Republic
- Played with Ireland u20 team at European championships in Hungary
- Led Rathdown to three Dublin school league winners titles (2017, 2018, 2019)
- Standing in at 6-6, Tungo is the tallest player recorded in program-history
- A native of Luanda, Angola, Tungo played for the u17 Angola national team
- The Quinnipiac women's basketball team enters the 2022-23 season ranked No. 8 in the Women's Mid-Major Top 25 rankings, earning 457 points, as announced by the College Insider committee
- The only team in the MAAC ranked in the poll, Quinnipiac's schedule has the Bobcats set to face five schools who are ranked or receiving votes in the College Insider preseason mid-major poll
- The Bobcats will take on Kent State and Lehigh in the Christmas City Classic (Nov. 26-27), before playing host to Yale (Dec. 7), as well as taking on Fairfield and Manhattan twice in conference play
- Quinnipiac women's basketball was picked to finish first in the MAAC as announced by the conference office on Oct. 18, during the 2022-23 Basketball Preseason Awards Show on ESPN3
- The Bobcats were tabbed No. 1 in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 117 total points and eight first place votes
- Trailing Quinnipiac in second was Manhattan with 112 points (3), followed by Niagara at 94 votes and reigning MAAC Tournament champions Fairfield with 74 points
- Three Bobcats earned All-MAAC preseason honors in Mackenzie DeWees (First Team, *unanimous), Mikala Morris (First Team) and Rose Caverly (Third Team)

- M&T Bank Arena, home of the Quinnipiac Bobcats, has long been one of the most difficult arenas to play at in the country. Since the 2012-13 season, Quinnipiac owns a record of 113-24 (.825) in games played at home
- In that same span, the Bobcats own a mark of 83-13 (.865) in conference play (NEC & MAAC) at home
- Quinnipiac owns a 102-44 (.698) mark since November 22, 2017
- The Bobcats stand with a mark of 74-13 (.850) at home in league games since joining the MAAC in 2013-14
- The Bobcats are 67-10 (.870) at M&T Bank Arena in conference games since the start of the 2014-15 campaign
- Since the start of the 2014-15 campaign the Bobcats are 110-36 (.753) in games where they score at least 70 points
- During 2017-18 (20-0), 2016-17 (16-0), 2012-13 (18-0) and 2010-11 (8-0), the Bobcats compiled undefeated records in each respective season when reaching the 70-point scoring plateau
- Quinnipiac has enjoyed a great deal of success over the past four seasons when building a first half lead. After starting 2016-17 with a mark of 2-0 when owning a halftime lead, the Bobcats saw one of their most impressive streaks in program history come to an end in a 71-68 loss at Temple
- The undefeated streak, which lasted over the course of three seasons, came to an end at 46 straight wins for the Bobcats when holding a halftime lead.
- Quinnipiac went undefeated in both 2014-15 (24-0) and 2015-16 (19-0) and for the first two games of 2016-17 before suffering the defeat.
- Overall, the Bobcats own a mark of 138-12 (.920) since the start of 2014-15 in games in which Quinnipiac leads at the half
- Quinnipiac will be back in action on Monday, Nov. 14, when the Bobcats play host to in-state foe Hartford
