Haywood's 20 Points Pushes QU Past CCSU in Home Opener

Women's Hoops Uses Balanced Attack to Down Blue Devils
HAMDEN, Conn. – Led by an efficient 20-point effort from senior Cur'Tiera Haywood, the Quinnipiac University women's basketball team (1-1) downed Central Connecticut State (0-2), 72-54, in the 2022-23 home opener inside of M&T Bank Arena.
Quinnipiac received a balanced scoring attack as it had four student-athletes finish in double-figures. Haywood led all scorers with a game-high 20 points, senior forward Mikala Morris finished with 16 points, graduate student forward Mary Baskerville totaled 12 points and first-year forward Ella O'Donnell recorded 10 points in her second game as a Bobcat.
After a back-and-forth first quarter which saw Quinnipiac hold an 18-17 lead by the end, the Bobcats came out on fire in the second quarter, outscoring the Blue Devils 24-8 in the period. The Bobcats forced CCSU to shoot 4-for-20 (20.0%) from the floor in the quarter, while shooting 9-for-14 (64.2%) themselves to take a commanding 42-25 lead into the half. The two sides traded baskets in the third quarter, with Central Connecticut narrowly outscoring Quinnipiac 22-20 in the quarter to cut the deficit to 62-47 entering the fourth quarter. However, the Bobcats turned up the pressure on the defensive end and held CCSU to seven points in the period on 33% shooting en route to closing out the 72-54 victory. NUMBERS AND NOTES

- With the win, Quinnipiac moves to 114-24 (.826) in home games since the 2012-13 season
- Quinnipiac improved to 25-5 all-time CCSU with the victory
- Haywood totaled 20 points, six rebounds and four assists in the win
- Morris added 16 points, four rebounds and three steals
- Baskerville contributed 12 points on 6-for-6 shooting and seven rebounds off the bench
- Baskerville is the first Quinnipiac player to shoot 100% from the floor (Minimum five attempts) since Cur'Tiera Haywood went 7-for-7 against Hartford on Nov. 28, 2021
- O'Donnell scored 10 points and added two assists off the bench in the victory
- Quinnipiac will be back in action on Monday, Nov. 14, when the Bobcats play host to in-state foe Hartford
