HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's soccer looks to defend its unbeaten MAAC record on Wednesday afternoon, playing host to Rider at 2:30 PM.
KICK FOR NICK
- Nick Madaras, a soccer standout at CT's Wilton High School and coach for younger players, enlisted in the Army after graduation and served in Iraq. There he saw children playing soccer with tin cans and balls of rags, a sight that coalesced into an idea - collecting and distributing soccer balls to Iraqi kids. But in 2006, before he could realize his dream, Madaras was killed by a road side bomb. He was 19 years old.
- In his memory, the Madaras family and friends established the Kick for Nick Foundation that collects and distributes soccer balls to kids around the world through US troops – more than 55,000 to date. Each ball bears the name – PFC Nick Madaras.
- Quinnipiac women's soccer is requesting that people attending Wednesday's game bring a used soccer ball, cleats or shin guards to donate to Nick's honor.
