A Look Back at Last Weekend
The Bobcats took both games against Maine to open the 2021-22 season with a 2-0 record. The Friday night showdown went back-and-forth between both teams. It came down to the wire as Maine scored its second goal with eight minutes remaining in the third to take the score to 3-2. The Bobcats' defense held on and Quinnipiac took the first game, 3-2. Sophomore Nina Steigauf, junior Alexa Hoskin and redshirt-junior Courtney Vorster all scored in the win. Redshirt-junior Logan Angers earned her first win of the season in the net and made 20 saves with two goals against.
On Saturday, the Black Bears started strong and took a 1-0 lead about two minutes into the game, but the Bobcats would come back to win 5-1. Five different Bobcats scored in the win, and Hoskin led the team with three points on one goal and two assists. Graduate student Corinne Schroeder earned her first start and win as a Bobcat, and she received credit for a goal. More on her historic goal below.
Scouting LIU
The LIU Sharks will come to Hamden after taking on the UConn Huskies last week. The Sharks fought two tough battles against the Huskies but left with two losses. Megan Bouver netted the Sharks lone goal of the weekend. Tindra Holm and Kenzie Harmison split time in the net for the Sharks, allowing five goals and making 41 saves each.
Last Time Against the Sharks
The Bobcats are 3-0 against LIU, playing all three games during the 2020-21 season. Quinnipiac has outscored LIU 22-0 through three games. Most recently, the Bobcats took down the Sharks, 11-0, on Feb. 17, 2021. The team's 11 goals scored tied the program record for goals scored in a single game, which was previously set on Nov. 28, 2009. The 11-0 victory was the largest shutout posted in program history. Sixteen different Bobcats recorded at least one point in the win, which was a new program record. The Bobcats were just one goal shy of the NCAA record for goals in a period (8). The Bobcats netted seven in the second against the Sharks, and are just the ninth team in NCAA Women's Ice History that a team has scored seven goals in a period. Seven goals in one period is the new program recordl; Quinnipiac has scored six goals in one period two times before (Nov. 29, 2013 at RIT and Jan. 16, 2005 at Union).
History in Hamden
Corinne Schroeder made her Quinnipiac debut in the net on Saturday against Maine. She allowed just one goal and made 27 saves, but her stat sheet included one thing you don't see very often, or ever – a goal. Schroeder was awarded a goal off a delayed penalty situation in which Maine sent the puck backwards into their own empty net. Schroeder was the last person to touch the puck for Quinnipiac, as she made a save, and she was awarded the Bobcats' fifth goal of the day. Schroeder is the first female goalie in NCAA history to receive credit for a goal. She is just the 13th student-athlete to ever receive credit for a goal as a goalie. She is also the second goalie in Quinnipiac ice hockey history, for the men and women, as Michael Garteig '16 also received credit for a goal on Dec. 7, 2013.
Bobcats Get Going
Nine different Bobcats recorded at least one point in the two wins against Maine. Hoskin and Peart both recorded multi-point games over the weekend. Graduate student Taylor Hosue and Vorster both notched game-winning goals.
