Men's Ice Hockey's Eight-Game Unbeaten Streak Snapped in Regular Season Finale
HAMDEN, Conn. – Joey Cipollone (Purchase, New York) had a goal and an assist to lead the No. 10/11 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team Saturday evening but the Bobcats came up short in the regular season finale with the Colgate Raiders, 4-3.
It was a thrilling fight to the finish as the Bobcats and Raiders battled throughout the second and third period to battle for the lead.
After the Bobcats took a 1-0 advantage into the first intermission on Cipollone's second goal of the season, Nick Anderson scored 1:43 into the second period to tie the game.
Griffin Lunn gave the Raiders a 2-1 lead late in the second period but the Bobcats answered back with their second power-play goal of the game. Ethan de Jong (North Vancouver, British Columbia) did his signature spin on a dime on top of the crease off a feed from Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) to bury a power-play goal. de Jong is tied for the team lead with 14 goals and leads the way with eight on the power play.
Tyler Jeanson would not be outdone for Colgate in the second period as he backhanded home a rebound for his first of the season to take the lead into the intermission.
TJ Friedmann (St. Louis, Missouri) tied the game once again for the Bobcats with 12:02 left in the third period off a nice centering feed from Joe O'Connor (Hamden, Connecticut) and tapped home the tying goal.
Colgate's Carter Gylander and Quinnipiac's Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Massachusetts) each came up with big save after big save in the third period - 14 and 12 saves in the period, respectively - but Josh McKechney banged home a rebound off a Nick Austin shot from the point with 2:49 to go in regulation to win it for the Raiders.
