HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team is back home for another weekend at the Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena as the Bobcats host the Yale Bulldogs Friday night in the 17th Heroes Hat Game before taking on the Brown Bears Saturday night.
Last Time Out
The Bobcats are coming off their third-ever North Country road trip sweep and first since the 2012-13 season. Quinnipiac went into Cheel Arena Friday night and beat then-No. 10/10 Clarkson, 4-2, before routing St. Lawrence at Appleton Arena just down Route 11 from Potsdam, 7-2. Tufto recorded six points on the weekend to lead all scorers.
Scouting Yale
Yale heads into the weekend with two straight wins and have won three of its last four to give the Bulldogs an 11-7-3 overall record and 9-4-1 mark in league play, tied with Quinnipiac for second in ECAC Hockey. The Bulldogs beat travel partner Brown on Saturday, 4-3, following a weekend split with an overtime loss at Union and a 3-2 win at Rensselaer. Joe Snively leads the team with 13 goals, 14 assists and 27 points on the season, including 10-10-20 in league play. Robbie DeMontis is second on the team with six goals and is tied for second on the team with Justin Pearson and Kevin O'Neil with 14 points. Goaltenders Sam Tucker and Corbin Kaczperski has split time once again this season, with Tucker leading the way with a 2.30 GAA and .920 save percentage but Kaczperski owns the better record at 6-2-2.
All-Time vs. Yale
Quinnipiac is 20-7-5 all-time against Yale dating back to the first meeting in the 2005-06 season, including a 3-1 mark against the Bulldogs last season. After splitting the regular season series, the Bobcats swept the Bulldogs at Ingalls Rink in the first round of the ECAC Hockey playoffs. Quinnipiac has been hot as of late against Yale, going 10-1-3 over the last 14 meetings.
Heroes Hat
Friday marks the 17th Heroes Hat game since it was established in 2002 and 13th between Quinnipiac and Yale. The Bobcats have won the Heroes Hat six years straight since the end of the 2012-13 season. The award was established in honor of those who risked or lost their lives following the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. It remembers Joseph Mascali, the father of Quinnipiac alumni Jennifer Mascali '02, Chris Mascali '05 and Kate Mascali '14.

The Bears have been one of the hottest teams in ECAC Hockey as of late, going 5-3-0 over the last eight games. Despite a loss at Yale on Saturday, the Bears had swept the previous weekend with a 3-0 win at Rensselaer and a 3-2 win at Union. Brown is 8-10-3 on the season and 5-6-3 in ECAC Hockey, tied for its most overall wins since an 11-win season in 2013-14. Tommy Marchin leads the Bears with six goals, seven assists and 13 points on the season while Zach Giuttari and Tristan Crozier are second on the team with 11 points. Gavin Nieto has 7-5-1 with a 2.45 GAA and .912 save percentage on the season.
All-Time vs. Brown
The Bobcats have owned the all-time series with the Bears, sporting a 23-7-6 record in 36 all-time meetings. Quinnipiac has won eight consecutive games against Brown dating back to the 2015-16 season and are 9-0-1 in the last 10 games. Last season, the Bobcats shut out the Bears in both games with a 5-0 win in November before a 3-0 blanking on Feb. 10.
National Polls
The Bobcats moved up in the polls for a third straight week to No. 4 in the nation and retained their first-place vote in the USCHO.com Division I men's poll. Quinnipiac is ranked for a 14th consecutive week and have been in the top five in five weeks during that span. The Bobcats are also No. 4 in the PairWise Rankings heading into the weekend's games.
Tufto Weekly Awards
Odeen Tufto had a remarkable week for the Bobcats last week as he racked up six points in two games, and was rewarded for his efforts as the NCAA First Star of the Week and ECAC Hockey Player of the Week. It was the second time this season he has been named the league's player of the week and he has claimed all three stars of the week from the NCAA.
ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week
Wyatt Bongiovanni also claimed his second ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week honor after a two-goal, three-point weekend as he led all ECAC Hockey rookies in scoring. Bongiovanni is the first ECAC Hockey freshman to win rookie of the week twice this season.
Walter Brown Award Semi-Finalists
Quinnipiac men's ice hockey had three players selected among the 20 semi-finalists for the 67th Annual Walter Brown Award. Senior Chase Priskie, junior Andrew Shortridge and sophomore Odeen Tufto were all named semi-finalists for the award, tying UMass for the most nominees for the award in 2019. Tufto was named as a semi-finalist a season ago.
An Incredible Honor for Waimon
Goaltending coach Jared Waimon was named the goaltending coach for the U.S. National U-17 Team for its Five Nations Cup tournament this week, his first stint with a national team. Waimon, in his fifth year at Quinnipiac, has also served as the goalie coach for USA Hockey at the women's national team evaluation camp this past fall.
