Bobcats Senior Pitcher Records Most Strikeouts Since 2014 in Win Over Top 20 Opponent
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After battling the weather all afternoon, the Quinnipiac baseball team finally took the field and played one of its best games in recent memory as the Bobcats defeated the No. 20 Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 8-6.
The Bobcats victory over the Demon Deacons was its first over a nationally ranked opponent since defeating Virginia, 13-11, on March 8, 2004.
Tyler Poulin (Randolph, New Jersey) was stellar on the mound as he struck out 12 batters the 6.1 innings to earn his first victory of the 2019 season. Poulin's 12 strikeouts are the most by a MAAC pitcher so far this season.
The Bobcats scored early and often against the Demon Deacons as seven runs crossed the plate through the first three innings as Quinnipiac took a 7-3 lead. Quinnipiac chased Wake Forest starting pitcher Morgan McSweeney after just .2 innings as he allowed four runs on six hits.
Five different Bobcats recorded two-hit games while Kevin Huscher (Middleboro, Massachusetts) and Kyle Maves (Burlington, Ontario) led the team with two RBIs in the win. Liam Scafariello (Southington, Connecticut) scored two runs in the winning effort.

FIRST INNING
- The Bobcats put four runs across in the first inning thanks to six straight singles leading to the first three runs of the game
- Scafariello led off with a single before going first-to-third on a Lutz single through the right side of the infield
- Vulgamore singled to center to score Scafariello before Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) singled to right to load the bases
- Brian Moskey (Higganum, Connecticut) reached on an infield single that scored Lutz and kept the bases loaded for Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachusetts) who singled through the left side to score Vulgamore.
- Following a strikeout, Huscher walked to score Marrero for the fourth run of the inning

- Scafariello led off the inning with a double down the left field line and advanced to third on a Lutz groundout before scoring on a wild pitch

- Moskey led off the inning with a single through the left side of the infield and advanced to second on a wild pitch then reached third on an Anthony Cruz (Burlington, Massachusetts) single to right field
- Huscher followed up with his RBI double down the right field line to score Moskey before Cruz came home to score on Kyle Maves (Burlington, Ontario) RBI groundout
SEVENTH INNING
- The Bobcats added an insurance run after putting a run across the plate with two outs in the inning
- Ostberg reached on a single up the middle before the Bobcats got runners on first and second with one out after Cruz reached on an infield single
- Huscher reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on first and third before Maves reached on another infield single to score Ostberg.
- Poulin's career-high 12 strikeouts are the most by a Quinnipiac pitcher since Derek Lamacchia '13 recorded 13 strikeouts against Fordham on March 2, 2012.
- Poulin's 12 strikeouts are also good for the most in the MAAC this season in a single game and tied for the third most in a single start in the NCAA this season
- Quinnipiac's win over Wake Forest is its first against a nationally-ranked opponent in at least the past 10 seasons
- Huscher led the Bobcats as he went 2 for 4 with a two RBI double and drew a walk
- Scafariello went 2 for 4 with a double, two runs scored, a walk and a stolen base
