GREENSBORO, North Carolina – The Quinnipiac baseball team will head to North Carolina for their final non-conference weekend before conference play begins next weekend. The Bobcats will face the UNC Greensboro Spartans in a three-game set starting on Friday, March 6th, with first pitch slated for 4 PM.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Bobcats were swept in their last series by the East Tennessee State Buccaneers out of the SoCon conference.
- Quinnipiac fell in the first game of the series, 8-2. Alex Irizarry and Jack Balcer drove in the runs for the Bobcats, and Nick Balcom was charged with the loss after pitching the first three innings.
- On Saturday, the Bobcats struck for two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth and held a 3-0 lead until the 8th inning. The Buccaneers won the game in the tenth inning on a walk-off single.
- The Bobcats took a 3-0 lead after the opening inning, but eleven runs combined in the seventh and eighth innings from ETSU sealed the series sweep.
HISTORY VS. UNC GREENSBORO
- Friday's matchup marks the third time the two teams are facing off in QU's Division I history.
- UNC Greensboro leads the all-time series, 2-0.
- The Spartans won both contests back in February 2019, outscoring the Bobcats 20-7 in the two games.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
- UNC Greensboro holds a 5-8 record early in the 2026 season. The Spartans swept their weekend series against the Canisius Golden Griffins as their only series win of the season.
- The Spartans have been swept by #18 Kentucky and Pittsburgh in their two other weekend series.
- UNC Greensboro is 2-2 in midweek contests so far this season.
- Last time out, the Spartans defeated NC A&T, 13-1, on Tuesday, March 3rd. Jacob Dilley recorded four RBIs out of the leadoff spot.
- Jacob Dilley leads the UNC Greensboro offense with a .444 batting average in 13 starts this season. Dilley has recorded 20 hits and is tied for the team lead with nine RBIs.
- UNC Greensboro has sent seventeen pitchers to the mound so far this season, with three of those pitchers not allowing an earned run. Of the four different starting pitchers so far this season, Isaac Miles leads them with a 3.31 ERA in 16.1 innings pitched.

PRESEASON ACCOLADES
- The Quinnipiac Baseball team was picked to finish 3rd in the MAAC Preseason Poll after last season ended in the MAAC Semifinal round against the Rider Broncs.
- Christian Smith was named to the Preseason All-MAAC team as he returns to Hamden.
- Smith finished the year with a .329 batting average in 56 contests. Smith tied for the team lead in home runs with 15 and led the Bobcats with 67 runs batted in.
- Smith had a tremendous MAAC Tournament last season, finishing the week with a .375 clip (6-for-16), while driving in nine runs in the five games in Pomona, earning him a nod on the All-Tournament team.
KEY RETURNERS
- The Bobcats return 19 players from last year's team, with of those players seeing game action.
- Of those returners, nine are pitchers: J.C. Franconere, Sam Wright, Griffin Seibel, Mike Poncini, Matt Alduino, Nick Balcom, Andrew Rubayo, Josh Lajoie, and Mason Ulsh.
- Ten position players return: Cole Constable, Kyle Garbowski, Sam Ametrano, Christian Smith, Alex Irizarry, Luke Zeisloft, James Marino, Matt Park, Ian Nilsen, and Christian Nilsen.
LOTS OF NEW FACES
- Quinnipiac welcomes 16 new faces to its campus this season.
- The Bobcats used the transfer portal to bring in sophomore right-handed pitcher Maddex Labuda (Liberty), junior outfield/first baseman Jack Balcer (Widener), senior right-handed pitcher James Pazdera, and graduate outfielder Brendan Edvardsen (AIC).
- Quinnipiac also brought in 12 first years, with six being pitchers and six being position players, Peyton Vancas (Pleasant Gap, Pa.), Timothy Park (Bridgewater, NJ.), Chase Camac (Northfield, NJ.), Caden Williamson (Broomfield, Co.), Teagan Beames (New Fairfield, Conn.), Brayden Hromada (Center Moriches, NY.), Joseph Hiller (Center Moriches, NY.), Kevin Rusinak (Manalapan, NJ.), Ethan Freed (Limerick, Pa.), Frank Orrei (Verona, NJ.), Langdon Hazen (Underhill, VT.), and Jacob Belecky (Komoka, Ontario, Canada).
NEXT TIME OUT
- The Bobcats will head back to the Northeast and take on the Brown Bears on Tuesday, March 10th, with the first pitch slated for 3 PM from Providence, Rhode Island.
