HAMDEN Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team is back on the road this weekend as the Bobcats travel back to North Carolina for one of its toughest weekends as they take on No. 20 Wake Forest for a pair of games as well as Elon in Winston-Salem, North Carolina this weekend.
Scouting Wake Forest
The Demon Deacons come into the weekend with a 2-2 record after wins over Sacred Heart and Georgetown, and losses to Illinois and Liberty. Bobby Seymour leads the Demon Deacons through the opening weekend with a .400 batting average on six hits with a pair of doubles and six RBIs. Chris Lanzilli boasts the only home run and three of his five hits went for extra bases. Lanzilli is the No. 118 prospect in the Class of 2020 while Michael Ludowig is No., 37. The Bobcats are slated to face starting pitchers Morgan McSweeney and Ryan Cusick. McSweeney is the No. 58 prospect, and is 1-0 on the season after striking seven batters in 6.2 scoreless innings against Sacred Heart in the opener. Cusick is slated for his first start of the 2019 season.
All-Time vs. Wake Forest
Quinnipiac is 0-2 all-time against Wake Forest, with the most recent meeting between the two clubs coming on March 3, 2017 which the Bobcats narrowly lost, 2-1, in 11 innings at David F. Couch Ballpark. The Bobcats initially led 1-0 after a Liam Scafariello scored on a fielder's choice before the Demon Deacons came back to win with runs in the eighth and 11th. The Bobcats also played at Wake Forest back on March 14, 2006, in an 11-5 loss.
Scouting Elon
The Phoenix come into the weekend with a 3-1 record after sweeping Lafayette but falling to NC State in a mid-week clash. Elon is led by Joe Satterfield who is 7 for 15 (.467) in his first four games with a home run while Tyler Stanley leads the way with a double and a triple, and three RBIs to accompany is .400 batting average. The Bobcats are going up against Kyle Brnovich, the No. 55 prospect for this year's MLB Draft. Brnovich comes into the weekend with a 1-0 record after recording nine strikeouts in 5.2 innings in his first start of the season. Elon's pitching staff has a 1.75 ERA through four games while the team is batting .300 with 39 hits in 130 at bats.

Last Time Out
The Bobcats opened the 2018 season with a pair of games at UNC Greensboro, falling to the Spartans in game one, 12-5, before coming up just short in the second game, 8-2. The series finale for the weekend was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Record Breaking Opener
Liam Scafariello opened the 2019 season with his 32 career home run, surpassing Ben Gibson '18 for the most home runs in Division I program history. Scafariello reached 32 home runs in just 106 career games for the Bobcats after joining the team as a transfer in 2017. Scafariello's 32 home runs are tied for fourth in program history with Tim Belcher '97. Scafariello now has his sights set on breaking the all-time program record for home runs held by Joe Zangari '00 with 39.
Lots of Lutz
Dylan Lutz led the Bobcats with three hits on the weekend, going 3-for-9 in two games and scoring a run. Lutz batted in the lead-off spot both games, and opened the second game of the weekend with a lead-off single.
Freshman Debuts
Samuel LaChance recorded his first career hit as he made his first start in the Bobcats second game of the season, picking up a single. Kyle Maves also made his collegiate debut with a walk while Matthew Draper and Gabriel Romano each pitched for the Bobcats.
Nicolosi's Back
Christian Nicolosi returned to the mound for the Bobcats in 2019 as he pitched three shutout innings out of the bullpen last Saturday as the Bobcats attempted to mount a comeback. Nicolosi recorded one strikeout and allowed just one hit in his three innings.
Preseason All-MAAC
In addition to the Scafariello's selection as Preseason Player of the Year and to the Preseason All-MAAC Team, three other Bobcats received Preseason All-MAAC Selections. Senior outfielder Brian Moskey was named Preseason All-MAAC for the outfield while junior Evan Vulgamore at third base and sophomore Colton Bender was named at catcher.
Preseason Polls
Despite finishing tied for second in the MAAC in 2018 and reaching the semifinals, the Bobcats were picked to finish fourth in the preseason coaches' poll. The Bobcats were picked behind co-preseason favorites Canisius and Monmouth, and Marist in third place.
Oh Captains, My Captains
Head coach John Delaney announced his captains for the 2019 season as he tabbed Anthony Cruz, Brian Moskey and Tyler Poulin with the leadership duties. All three are in their final seasons with the Bobcats and look to lead the team to its first MAAC Championship in school history.
Poulin's Power
Tyler Poulin returns to the mound for the Bobcats as the No. 1 starter just one season after setting the Division I single-season program record with 86 strikeouts in 2018. Poulin is one of just two pitchers in Division I program history to record more than 80 strikeouts while his total was the fifth-most all-time in program history.
