Baseball Falls in Series Opener Against UNC Greensboro

Greensboro, North Carolina – The Quinnipiac baseball program fell in the series opener to the UNC Greensboro Spartans, 13-3 in seven innings. With the loss, the Bobcats fell to 2-8 overall on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After two and a half scoreless innings, the UNC Greensboro Spartans exploded for eleven runs in the bottom of the third inning to blow the game open.
Quinnipiac answered with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning. Peyton Vancas scored Quinnipiac's first run of the contest as he came home on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Christian Nilsen came home on a Luke Zeisloft groundout to put two runs on the board. With two outs in the inning, Kyle Garbowski doubled to left field to bring home another run as QU put up three in the fourth inning.
UNC Greensboro added another two runs in the fifth inning and held Quinnipiac off the board as they won 13-3 in seven innings.

NEWS AND NOTES
- Seven Bobcats recorded hits in the series opener against the Spartans.
- Jack Balcer and Chase Camac both picked up two hits in the loss.
- Kyle Garbowski and Luke Zeisloft each recorded an RBI in the effort. Garbowski's RBI is his fifth of the season, while Zeisloft's is his second.
- Christian Nilsen picked up one hit in two plate appearances to raise his batting average to .400.
- Nick Balcom got the start on the mound and went 2.1 innings, and was charged with his fourth loss of the season.
- Ethan Freed struck out two in a scoreless inning pitched.
