HOW IT HAPPENED
UNC Greensboro got on the board first, striking for four runs in the bottom half of the opening inning.
Cole Constable got Quinnipiac on the board in the third inning as he launched his first homer of the year.
UNCG would score three straight runs to make it a 7-1 ballgame heading into the fifth inning. With the Bobcats trailing by six, QU put up a five-spot in the fifth to make it a one-run game. Caden Williamson got them started in the inning as he singled home Ian Nilsen with Quinnipiac's second run of the game. Cole Constable followed up with an RBI single of his own to make it a 7-3 game. Later in the inning, Alex Irizarry reached base on an error, and two more runs came home to extend the inning. The Bobcats' fifth run of the inning came home on a Kyle Garbowski groundout to second.
After the Spartans got a run back to make it an 8-6 game, the Bobcats exploded for eight runs in the seventh to take control.
James Marino got the scoring started in the inning as he laced a two-run double down the right field line to knot the game up at eight. After Marino advanced to third, he later scored on a wild pitch to put the Bobcats in front. With two outs in the inning, Irizarry delivered with a two-run single to give the Bobcats a three-run lead. Still with two outs and two runners on, Garbowski lined a pitch to deep left-center field and rounded the bases on an inside-the-park home run, making it a 14-8 game.
UNC Greensboro would get three more runs, but that wasn't enough as Quinnipiac closed out the win to even the series.
