Bobcats Fall in Second Game of Opening Weekend Series, Lutz Leads Way with Two Hits
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Quinnipiac baseball team pulled within three runs of the UNC Greensboro Spartans in the top of the eighth inning and loaded the bases in the ninth but the late-inning comeback fell Saturday afternoon in an 8-2 loss.
Anthony Cruz (Burlington, Massachusetts) drove in Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachusetts) with an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning and Liam Scafariello (Southington, Connecticut) scored on a Spartan throwing error in the eighth inning to cut the Spartans lead to 5-2.
Following a three-run eighth inning for UNC Greensboro, Quinnipiac loaded the bases in the top of the ninth inning with an Ostberg single, Samuel LaChance (Dover, New Hampshire) hit by pitch and Kyle Maves (Burlington, Ontario) walk but could not capitalize before back-to-back strikeouts to close out the game.
