Women's Ice Hockey Set to Host the 16th Annual Nutmeg Classic

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's hockey team will host the 16th Annual Nutmeg Classic Nov. 29-30. The Bobcats welcome No. 10/10 Minnesota Duluth, Yale and UConn to Hamden who will all compete to take home the Nutmeg Classic Cup.
UConn and Yale will play in the first game on Nov. 29 at 1 p.m. Quinnipiac and Minnesota Duluth will play in the second game on Friday at 4 p.m. The losers of the first games will play in the consolation game on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 1 p.m., and the winners of the first games will play in the championship game at 4 p.m.

Nutmeg History
This is the 16th Annual Nutmeg Classic, which has been hosted by Quinnipiac, Yale and Uconn over the last 16 seasons. The Bobcats have won seven Nutmeg Classic Cups, followed by Yale with four and UConn with one. Some of the non-Connecticut teams that have won the championship include, Providence (2018), Merrimack (2016) and Boston College (2012).
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac went 1-0-1 last weekend after taking on St. Lawrence and No. 7/6 Clarkson. The Bobcats gave up just two goals in 125 minutes of play and scored seven.
On Friday, Nov. 22 against the Saints, the Bobcats scored five unanswered goals and tallied the team's fifth shutout of the season. First-year Kate Reilly scored the eventual game-winner in the first period from sophomore Lexie Adzija and junior Taylor House. Ten minutes later, senior Sarah-Eve Coutu-Godbout scored from Grace Markey to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead. The Saints would later pull netminder Lucy Morgan with approximately seven minutes remaining in regulation. Quinnipiac would score three goals in three minutes to secure a 5-0 win. Adzija, first-year Sadie Peart and senior Kenzie Prater all added goals in the third period.
The next day, the Bobcats and Golden Knights skated to a 2-2 tie after 65 minutes of play. The Golden Knights took a 2-0 lead after two power play goals in the second period. Adzija scored with 55 seconds remaining in the second period to put the Bobcats within one goal of Clarkson's lead. On Quinnipiac's first shot of the third period, Reilly sniped a rocket from just across the blue line past Clarkson's Marie-Pier Coulombe to tie the game, 2-2. Neither the Bobcats, nor the Golden Knights would score in overtime, and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Scouting Minnesota Duluth
The Bulldogs hold a 7-5-2 record overall and a 4-4-2 conference record. In the last four games, the Bulldogs have gone 0-2-2. Gabby Hughes leads the team with 20 points on nine goals and 11 assists. Hughes' 11 assists rank third in the WCHA. In the net for the Bulldogs, Maddie Rooney holds a 7-5-2 record with a .932 save percentage and 1.84 goals against average.
All-Time Against the Bulldogs
Quinnipiac has an all-time record of 1-1-0 against Minnesota Duluth. The Bobcats and Bulldogs have only played twice, and both games were during the 2018-19 season. Quinnipiac earned a 2-1 victory on Jan. 26 with goals coming from juniors Taylor House and Laura Lundblad.
Scouting Yale
The other two teams competing in the Nutmeg Classic are Yale and UConn. The Yale Bulldogs hold a 5-4-0 overall record with a 3-3-0 ECAC record. The Bulldogs leading scored is Elle Hartje with 11 points on five goals and six assists.
Notes on UConn
The UConn Huskies are 8-5-1 overall and 5-3-1 in Hockey East. The Huskies are 2-1-1 in the last four games after taking down Maine and No. 8/8 Boston College. UConn's Natalie Snodgrass leads the team with 16 points on seven goals and nine assists.
Reilly is Rolling
First-year Kate Reilly is ranked third on the team with three goals and five assists for eight points. She earned the ECAC Rookie of the Week Award for competition from Nov. 18-24 after scoring two goals through two games for the Bobcats. She tallied the game-winner in a 5-0 win against St. Lawrence and the game-tying goal against Clarkson. She is also tied for seventh in defenseman scoring in the ECAC.
Ives in the Net
Senior netminder Abbie Ives earned the ECAC MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Week award after going 1-0-1 on the weekend. Ives stopped 53 of 55 shots through two games and earned her third shutout of the season.
Dominant Defensive Core
Quinnipiac's defensive core has allowed 25 goals this season, averaging 1.67 goals against per game, which is ranked sixth in the country. Senior Kenzie Prater leads the team with 26 blocks, followed by Reilly with 20.
Adzija on Fire
Sophomore Lexie Adzija is currently on a five-game point streak and recorded three points through two games against St. Lawrence and Clarkson. She leads the team with 13 points on five goals and eight assists.

The Bobcats have scored 38 goals this season with 14 different Bobcats scoring at least one goal so far this season. Seven Bobcats have scored more than one goal.
