Jermain Tallies Fifth Goal of Season, Petruzzelli Makes 20 Saves to Lead Bobcats
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team battled for all 60 minutes Friday night but came up just short as the Bobcats fell to the No. 2/2 Cornell Big Red, 2-1, at Lynah Rink.
Nick Jermain (Norwalk, Connecticut) tied his career-high with his fifth goal of the season as he tied the game near the midway point of the second period.
All three goals in Friday night's game came during the second period, as Cornell scored early in the period before Jermain's goal. The Big Red scored the game-winner two minutes after Jermain's goal.
The Bobcats put up a strong fight in the third period but could not get the game-tying goal to go despite a 13-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Friday night also featured stellar goaltender as Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Massachusetts) made 20 saves, including several breakaways and open Cornell shots. Petruzzelli made eight saves in each of the first two periods.

- (3:36, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 0, Cornell 1: Brenden Locke scored his first of the season to give the Big Red the lead as he received a pass from Ben Berard in the high slot and beat Petruzzelli five-hole for the goal.
- (7:05, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 1, Cornell 1: Jermain tied the game with 12:55 left in the second period after Cukste cut off a Cornell clear attempt, skated into the left faceoff circle before zipping the puck through the slot to Jermain wide open on the back door.
- (9:09, 2nd period – PP) – Quinnipiac 1, Cornell 2: The Big Red tied the game just over two minutes later on the power play as Michael Regush netted a rebound goal after Petruzzelli made a great save on a Yanni Kaldis shot and Regush gathered the puck as Petruzzelli sprawled to try to make the second save near the right post.
- Jermain scored his third goal in the last five games and tied his career-high with his fifth goal of the season
- He has now scored five goals in each of the last three seasons and has 19 career goals
- Cukste extended his point streak to four games with an assist on Jermain's goal, tied for the longest point streak of his career.
- He is tied for the ECAC Hockey defenseman lead with seven assists and is now third with eight points.
- Petruzzelli was solid between the pipes despite picking up the loss as he recorded 20 saves to give him eight games with 20-plus saves this season.
- Quinnipiac travels east to Hamilton, New York, where the Bobcats will take on the Colgate Raiders Saturday night at Class of 1965 Arena at 7:30 p.m.
