Bobcats, Friars set to face-off Friday night in Providence
HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's hockey team is set to open the 2019-20 season with a home-and-home series against the Providence Friars. Providence will host the Bobcats on Friday, Oct. 4 at Schneider Arena for a 6 p.m. puck drop. Quinnipiac will return to Hamden Saturday, Oct. 5 for the home opener against the Friars at 3 p.m.

GAME NOTES
Scouting Providence
The Friars will play its first regular season game against the Bobcats on Friday night. Providence played one exhibition game against the University of New Brunswick on Sept. 28 and won 1-0.
The Friars are coming off a 24-11-2 season with a Hockey East Tournament semifinal appearance. Providence will return three of its top-five scores from last season including Maureen Murphy who tallied 43 points (22g, 21a) last season. The team graduated five seniors and will welcome eight newcomers.
History with the Friars
Most recently, Quinnipiac and Providence met in the 2018 Nutmeg Championship game when the Friars won a tight 2-1 game. Kate MacKenzie scored for the Bobcats and Hayley Lunny tallied two goals for the Friars. Quinnipiac currently stands at 1-8 all-time against Providence and will look to secure two wins this weekend against the Hockey East team.
Last Time on the Ice
The Bobcats hosted the Ryerson Rams of the OUA conference on Saturday, Sept. 28 in an exhibition game at the People's United Center. Quinnipiac came out firing, scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes. Sophomore Lexie Adzija netted the first Bobcat goal, followed by Brooke Bonsteel and Katie Huntington. Bonsteel would add her second goal of the day in the third period, and freshman Sadie Peart would net the fifth goal with eight minutes left in the game. Freshman Kate Reilly had two assists in the win, and freshman Kenzie Hauswirth, juniors Olivia Konigson, Grace Markey, and seniors Kenzie Prater and Sarah-Eve Coutu-Godbout each had one helper, as well.
New Year, New Squad
Quinnipiac welcomes seven freshmen and one transfer to the 2019-20 roster. Kate Reilly and Alexa Hoskin join the team from Richmond, British Columbia and Belleville, Ontario, respectively. The remaining five freshmen come from the United States - Kenzie Hauswirth (Farmington, Minn.), Ally Watrous (Whitesboro, N.Y.), Sadie Peart (Grand Rapids, Minn.), Jordyn McAlpine (Stillwater, Minn.) and Allie Kelley (East Berne, N.Y.) The Bobcats also welcome transfer student Taylor Girard, who comes to Quinnipiac from Lindenwood. Girard originally hails from Macomb, Mich.
A Look at Last Season
Quinnipiac finished the 2018-19 season in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Hockey Tournament in a battle of a series against the Clarkson Golden Knights. The Bobcats tallied a 12-18-6 record last year.
Returning Numbers
The Bobcats lost five seniors in 2019, but will return 15 letter-winners from last season. Of the top ten scorers from 2018-19, six will return for the Bobcats, including two defensemen, Kati Tabin and Zoe Boyd. In the net, Abbie Ives returns for her senior campaign after recording a .924 save percentage and 1.89 GAA last year. Ives' 1.73 career GAA is ranked fifth in the program's all-time individual career records list.
Leading the Charge
The captains for the Bobcats have been named ahead of the 2019-20 season. Wearing the "C" will be seniors Kenzie Prater and Kati Tabin. The alternate captains will be senior Abbie Ives and junior Olivia Konigson.
Schedule Breakdown
The Bobcats have 34 games slated for the 2019-20 season. Quinnipiac will face six non-conference teams including Providence, Maine, Sacred Heart, Minnesota Duluth, Merrimack and Ohio State. Of the non-conference teams, Minnesota Duluth and Ohio State were ranked in the first poll of the season at #10 and #9, respectively.
Tabin's Summer
The senior defenseman was named to the BFL National Women's Development Team for Team Canada's Summer Showcase. The camp took place in Calgary at the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport's Canada Olympic Park from Aug. 2-11. Eighty-nine of the Canada's top under-18 and development team talents were selected. Tabin was also invited back to camp for Hockey Canada's National Women's Team Fall Festival for the second year in a row. The camp took place in Liverpool, N.S., from Sept. 9-15, after the Summer Showcase.
Alumnae Spotlight
Melissa Samoskevich '19 was invited to attend the 2019 USA Hockey Women's National Festival that took place from Aug. 5-13. In addition, Anna Kilponen '19 signed to play with the Linköping Hockey Club in Sweden.
