HAMDEN, Conn. – The No. 8 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team wraps up the first half of the season as the Bobcats welcome a top-ranked team to Hamden for the first time ever in a home-and-home series with the No. 1 UMass Minutemen.
Last Time Out
The Bobcats extended their winning streak to six games with a third straight weekend sweep by defeating then-No. 19 Princeton, 3-0, Friday night before a 6-3 win Saturday night. Chase Priskie totaled three goals on the weekend while Odeen Tufto had six points. Andrew Shortridge picked up the Bobcats fifth shutout of the season on Friday night.
Scouting UMass
The Minutemen come into the weekend with a 12-1-0 record and 7-0-0 mark in Hockey East, riding a nine-game winning streak. Last weekend, the Minutemen took down the UConn Huskies, 7-4, after taking down Princeton in overtime the week before. Forward Mitchell Chaffee and Cale Makar are tied for the team lead with 18 points while Chaffee's 10 goals are the most on UMass. Makar and Leonard are tied for the team lead with 12 assists on the year. UMass goaltender Matt Murray is a perfect 9-0-0 with 1.99 GAA and .929 save percentage.
All-Time vs. UMass
Quinnipiac is 7-4-2 all-time against UMass dating back to the 2010 season. The Minutemen swept last weekend's series between the two teams after the Bobcats had won the previous four straight meetings. Quinnipiac is 5-2-0 all-time at the Mullins Center in Amherst, Massachusetts, against the Minutemen.
National Polls
For a seventh straight week, the Bobcats continued their ascent in the national rankings as they climbed up to No. 8 in both national polls for their highest ranking since Dec. 5, 2016. Quinnipiac has inched up the polls since cracking the top 10 three weeks ago. Quinnipiac is up to 687 points in the USCHO Poll and 287 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll.
Seeking 500 Wins
Rand Pecknold continued in his journey for his 500th career victory after last weekend's sweep, moving up to 498 career wins. He looks to become just the second coach in Quinnipiac Athletics history to record 500 wins at Quinnipiac, as former men's and women's tennis coach Mike Quitko recorded 526 wins over 23 years with those programs. Former baseball coach Dan "Skip" Gooley recorded his 500th career win as a coach at Quinnipiac, but recorded 101 wins in a brief stint at Hartford before returning to Quinnipiac.

For a second straight week, the Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team garnered two ECAC Hockey Weekly Awards as Chase Priskie was named the league's Player of the Week while Michael Lombardi was tabbed the rookie of the week. Quinnipiac has now won five weekly awards over the past three weeks.
Individual National Recognition
Also for a second straight week, Odeen Tufto was also rewarded an NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Star of the Week after another impressive weekend on the ice. He was named the second star of the week just one week after garnering the third star of the week. He is the only Bobcat to earn star of the week honors this season.
Lots of Presents
Quinnipiac comes into the weekend with the most wins in the nation at 13 and has the second highest winning percentage (.867) behind only Massachusetts (.923). The Bobcats are one of just nine teams in the nation with double-digit wins on the season. Quinnipiac also is tied for the nation's second-longest winning streak at six games, trailing only UMass with a nine-game winning streak.
On the Nice List
Quinnipiac is among the most well-rounded teams in NCAA Hockey this season as the Bobcats are fifth in the nation averaging 3.87 goals per game and second with 58 total goals. The defense is just as good as Quinnipiac is third in the nation allowing 1.80 goals per game and sixth allowing just 23.40 shots on goal per game.
Not Giving Up
Not only have the Quinnipiac defensemen been getting it done on the defensive side of the ice, but they have been a major part of the offensive attack. Bobcat defensemen lead the nation with 21 goals, 45 assists, 66 points, nine power-play goals, 24 power-play assists, 33 power-play points, seven game-winning goals, 180 total shots and 12.00 shots on goal per game. Only 11 schools in the nation have defensemen scoring at least 10 goals and no other school has recorded 50 points by its defensemen.
Believers
Quinnipiac has one of the most productive freshman classes in the nation as they have dished out the most assists (33) while their 50 points are tied for second in the nation and the 17 goals are fourth. Only Niagara (51) has more points this season. Each of those totals is tops in ECAC Hockey while the Bobcats' freshmen are also first with 1.13 goals per game, five game-winning goals, 162 shots on goal and 10.80 shots on goal per game.
Priskie's Party
Priskie scored three goals last weekend, including two in Saturday night's game at Princeton for his fifth career two-goal game. He has now recorded a point in 12 of 15 games this season and scored a goal in 10 games. The Bobcats are 9-1-0 when Priskie scores a goal this season.
Presents on Presents
With his 11 goals this season, Priskie has already tied his single-season career-high from last year and is just one point shy of recording his fourth straight 20-point season. Priskie has 96 points in his career, tied for the most among active Division I defensemen while his 33 career goals leads all active defensemen. In terms of program history, Priskie remains second among defensemen in career goals and is fifth in points, looking to become the fourth defensemen in program history with 100 points.
Tufto's Traditions
Tufto recorded six points for a second straight weekend as he extended his point streak to five games with points in back-to-back games. He has now recorded points in 12 of 15 games this season. He also had multi-point game each night to give him seven on the season as he now has 14 points over his last five games. On the year, Tufto third in the nation with 24 points, tied for fifth with 10 goals and tied for seventh with 14 assists.
