HAMDEN, Conn. – The No. 4/5 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team returns to the ice after a three-week break to take on the Colgate Raiders in a non-conference game at NYCB Live, the Home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, on Long Island.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac entered the holiday break with a weekend split against then-No. 1 UMass, shutting out the Minutemen at home, 4-0, before falling on the road, 3-1, in the final game of the first half. Andrew Shortridge recorded a 32-save shutout in the victory over the Minutemen while Craig Martin recorded two goals in the win. Chase Priskie had a goal and an assist on the weekend as well.
Scouting Colgate
The Raiders struggled in the first half of the season, going 4-9-2 despite winning the final game before some time off. After starting the season 2-0-0, Colgate was 2-9-2 over its final 13 games and was 1-3-1 since Nov. 17, a 5-0 loss to the Bobcats. Colgate has scored just 19 goals through its first 15 games, led by Bobby McMann's four goals and four assists for eight points. Mitch Benson has seen the bulk of the time between the pipes, going 3-8-2 in 13 starts with a 2.94 GAA and .909 save percentage.

Quinnipiac is 22-15-2 in 39 games against Colgate dating back to the first-ever meeting between the two programs in the 2005-06 season. The Bobcats are now 8-1-0 against the Raiders since the start of the 2014-15 season, including a 5-0 win earlier this season in Hamilton. Wyatt Bongiovanni scored two second period power-play goals in that game while Luke Shiplo, Craig Martin and Daniel Winslow also scored. Keith Petruzzelli recorded a 21-save shutout in the victory.
National Polls
The Bobcats once again climbed up in the national polls, cracking the top five in both polls for the first time since the beginning of the 2016-17 season. Quinnipiac is ranked No. 5 in the USCHO.com Division I Men's Poll while the Bobcats ultimately reached No. 4 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll. The Bobcats have climbed in the rankings for nine consecutive weeks.
Seeking 500 Wins
Rand Pecknold continued in his journey for his 500th career victory after last weekend's split, moving up to 499 career wins. He looks to become just the second coach in Quinnipiac Athletics history to record 500 wins at Quinnipiac, as former men's and women's tennis coach Mike Quitko recorded 526 wins over 23 years with those programs. Former baseball coach Dan "Skip" Gooley recorded his 500th career win as a coach at Quinnipiac, but recorded 101 wins in a brief stint at Hartford before returning to Quinnipiac.

Rand Pecknold is looking to become the 26th coach in NCAA Ice Hockey history to record his 500th career victory and 17th at the Division I level. His 499 current victories are the third most among active head coaches, only trailing Boston College's Jerry York and Mercyhurst's Rick Gotkin.
Weekly Awards
For a fourth consecutive week, the Bobcats also garnered an ECAC Hockey Weekly Award selection as goaltender Andrew Shortridge was tabbed as the league's Goaltender of the Week after his 32-save shutout against then-No. 1 UMass. The weekly honor was Shortridge's first of the season and second of his career.
New Face in Bobcat Nation
Over the holiday break, the Bobcats made an addition to the roster as defenseman Cam Boudreau joined the team. A native of Salem, New Hampshire, Boudreau spent the first part of this season as the captain of the Boston Jr. Bruins of the NCDC where he totaled three goals and 11 assists in 29 games along with a +24 plus/minus rating. Boudreau had three goals and 13 assists in 45 games last season for the Jr. Bruins.
Toews '17 Makes NHL Debut
Former Bobcat Devon Toews '17 made his NHL debut just before the NHL Holiday Break as he suited up for the New York Islanders' 3-1 victory against the Dallas Stars on Dec. 23. Toews was impressive in his debut, recording a +1 along with three shots on goal and had a time-on-ice of 18:05. Toews is the third former Bobcat to play in the NHL this season and seventh overall to dress for an NHL game.
Winning Ways
Quinnipiac begins the second half of the season Saturday tied for the most wins in the nation with 14, joined by UMass (14-2-0), Minnesota State (14-4-0) and Arizona State (14-6-0). The Bobcats also have a .824 winning percentage, third in the nation only behind UMass and St. Cloud State (.875).
Among the Best
As a team, Quinnipiac is one of the best statistically in the nation. Defensively, the Bobcats are second in the nation with a 1.76 GAA and are tied for fourth allowing just 30 goals on the season. Quinnipiac also leads the nation with six shutouts this season. The Bobcats' +33 goal margin is third in the nation while Quinnipiac's 63 goals for and 3.71 goals per game are sixth in the nation. The Bobcats also rank in the top 10 in the nation in power-play (25.3 percent), penalty kill (88.9 percent) and shots on goal allowed per game (24.88).
