HAMDEN, Conn. – The No. 15/20 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team continues play in the 2018-19 season with its first two-game weekend of the year as the Bobcats take on the American International College Yellow Jackets in a home-and-home series.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac is coming off its biggest win of the season as the Bobcats shut out then-No. 18 Boston College last Friday night, 1-0, in front of a sold out crowd of over 3,600 fans. Keith Petruzzelli recorded 21 saves in his first career shutout and Chase Priskie blasted home the game-winning power-play goal for the game's lone goal.
Scouting AIC
The Yellow Jackets are off to a solid start in 2018-19, going 2-2-1 through the first five games of the season and 2-1-1 in Atlantic Hockey play. Last season, AIC finished the year with a 15-20-4 record and were near .500 in league play. So far this year, junior Blake Christensen leads the way with three goals and six points while two of his three goals have come on the power-play. Brennan Kapcheck is tied for the team lead with four assists while his five points are second on the team. Shawn McBride and Nicholas Luka each have four assists and four other plays have two goals on the season. In goal, Stefano Durante has made four of the five starts and has a 2.93 GAA with a. .844 save percentage to go 2-1-1.
All-Time vs. AIC
Between their Division I and Division II days, Quinnipiac and AIC have met 38 times and the Bobcats lead the all-time series, 23-13-2, as they head into the 39th and 40th all-time games between the two teams. In the Division I era, the Bobcats are even better with a 23-5-1 mark against the Yellow Jackets. These two teams last faced off on Nov. 6, 2013, when the Bobcats fell, 2-1, in an election night game in Hamden. Following that loss, the Bobcats went on a program record 21-game unbeaten streak with an 18-0-3 mark during that streak. Quinnipiac went on to reach the national championship game for the first time in program history that season.
Bobcats in the Polls
Quinnipiac is back in the national polls for the first time in nearly a year as the Bobcats are ranked in both national polls following an impressive 3-0-0 start to the season. The Bobcats are No. 15 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll while receiving a No. 20 ranking from the USCHO Division I Men's Poll. Quinnipiac is one of three teams in the polls that has begun their season to have an unblemished record, joining No. 9/10 Penn State (4-0-0) and No. 2/3 St. Cloud State (4-0-0).
Early Success
The Bobcats sport a 3-0-0 record heading into the weekend for the first time in three seasons after their early success against a trio of Hockey East teams. The Bobcats took down Vermont in a raucous environment, 3-2, at Gutterson Fieldhouse before returning to Hamden for a 4-2 win over UConn and the 1-0 shutout of Boston College. The last time the Bobcats were unbeaten through three games was 2015-16 when the Bobcats opened the season with 11 straight wins and a 17-game unbeaten streak at 15-0-2.
Seeking 500 Wins
Rand Pecknold continued in his journey for his 500th career victory last Friday as the Bobcats picked up the 1-0 victory over Boston College for Pecknold's 488th career win. He looks to become just the second coach in Quinnipiac Athletics history to record 500 wins at Quinnipiac, as former men's and women's tennis coach Mike Quitko recorded 526 wins over 23 years with those programs. Former baseball coach Dan "Skip" Gooley recorded his 500th career win as a coach at Quinnipiac, but recorded 101 wins in a brief stint at Hartford before returning to Quinnipiac.
All-Time Wins at Quinnipiac
The Fighter

His numbers are remarkable to start the season as he leads ECAC Hockey with a 1.34 GAA, three wins and one shutout while his .931 save percentage is second to Union's Darion Hanson who has made just two starts.
Chasing History
Chase Priskie helped power the Bobcats to the shutout of the Eagles with Quinnipiac's only goal of the game last Friday.
