HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac volleyball team entertains Fairfield on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Burt Kahn Court in a rematch of last year's MAAC Championship, which the Stags won 3-0 as part of their current 43-match win streak against MAAC opponents, including the last two conference titles.
• Fairfield has not lost a MAAC match since a 3-2 defeat to Iona in 2015. The Stags won the last 10 regular season matches and the conference tournament in 2015, went 20-0 last year (including their second straight conference title) and are 11-0 so far this year.
• Fairfield is the only MAAC team the Bobcats have never defeated. Quinnipiac picked up its first-ever wins over Siena, Niagara, Canisius, Iona, and Marist last year on its way to an 11-7 MAAC record and a berth in the conference finals.
• Quinnipiac is 4-2 at home so far this season, after winning its most recent match at Burt Kahn Court 3-1 over Manhattan on Sunday.
• The Bobcats are in a close battle for the postseason, standing in a virtual tie with Canisius for the sixth and final MAAC Tournament bid, one game behind Rider in fifth. Quinnipiac has defeated both Rider and Canisius in the first meetings this season, and would have the tiebreakers with either if it also won the rematches.
• Sophomore setter Maria Pansari became only the third Quinnipiac setter to reach 2,000 career assists against Marist on Oct. 15. She enters the Fairfield match with 2,096 assists in less than two full seasons, on an early pace to break the school mark of 4.519 set by Jen McClain ('99).
• Fairfield earned a 3-0 win in the first meeting with Quinnipiac on Oct. 7. The Bobcats battled to a close 25-23 defeat in the first set, before the Stags pulled away in the second and third sets. Natalie Alechko (13) and Morgan Sherwin (11) each had double figures in kills for Quinnipiac, while Skyler Day (12) and Kaylie Butts (11 in 13 attempts) each were in double figures for Fairfield.
• Sophomore Kaleigh Oates and freshman Morgan Sherwin tied for team-high honors with 16 kills in Sunday's win over Manhattan, with both setting new career highs. Sherwin also had a career-high seven blocks.
• The Bobcats have been without both of their co-captains, senior Elizabeth Kloos and junior Jen Coffey, since September due to injury. Kloos ranks fourth all-time in Quinnipiac history at the Division I level with 771 career kills, while Coffey ranks fifth with 757 (see chart below).
• Quinnipiac finished last season with a 21-13 record, an 18-win improvement over the 2015 campaign, he largest turnaround in the nation last year.
