Fairfield Volleyball Sweeps Quinnipiac for 44th Straight MAAC Win

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac volleyball team battled to a close 25-22 loss in the first set, but Fairfield was able to control the next two sets and take a 3-0 win over the Bobcats on Friday evening at Burt Kahn Court, the 44th straight win against MAAC teams for the Stags.

- Fairfield has not lost a MAAC match since a 3-2 defeat to Iona in the 2015 season. They went on to win the last 12 that year (including two ttournament wins), went 20-0 last year including their second straight MAAC title, and are 12-0 so far this season.
- The Stags hit .364 for the match, including .515 in the second set when they did not commit an error (17-0-33)
- Sophomore Natalie Alechko (Old Tappan, N.J.) had a strong outing for the Bobcats with a team-high 10 kills on 25 attempts for a .320 percentage.
- Freshman defensive specialist Haley Anderson (St. James, N.Y.) and sophomore libero Alejandra Rodriguez (Toa Alta, P.R.) each had nine digs.
- In the first set, the Bobcats cut a 19-14 lead down to 22-21 on an ace from sophomore setter Maria Pansari (Whitehouse Station, N.J.). The Stags went up 24-21, and freshman Morgan Sherwin (Coplay, Pa.) fought off the first set point with a kill, but Lori Albertson had a kill on the next point for the Stags.
- Quinnipiac (6-8) fell a full game behind Canisius (6-6) for sixth place (the final spot in the MAAC Tournament) after Canisius upset Niagara yesterday.
