Head Coach Kyle Robinson Earned Coach of the Year Honors
HAMDEN, Conn. – For the third straight season, Damla Gunes was named the MAAC Setter of the Year, as announced by the conference office on Thursday morning. Head Coach Kyle Robinson was tabbed the MAAC Coach of the Year for the first time in his tenure at Quinnipiac.
A trio of Bobcats were named to the All-MAAC First Team after leading the team to a 16-2 conference record: Damla Gunes, Elena Giacomini, and Yagmur Gunes.
The three-time setter of the year had another stellar regular season for the Bobcats. Gunes has recorded 1,053 assists so far this season as she eclipsed the 4,000-assist mark, becoming just the second Bobcat in their Division I history to reach that mark. Gunes ranks second in the MAAC with overall assists and second with 683 assists throughout MAAC play. Last season, Gunes became the first Bobcat to win the Setter of the Year award in back-to-back seasons.
Elena Giacomini had another solid regular season for the Bobcats, helping Quinnipiac to a 16-2 conference record. In her second season in Hamden, Giacomini recorded 482 kills, recording double-digit kills in all but two matches this season. Giacomini led the conference with 482 kills throughout non-conference and conference play and ranked second with 272 kills throughout MAAC play.
Yagmur Gunes was named to the All-MAAC First Team for the first time of her collegiate career. Gunes finished the regular season with 362 kills, which was good for second on the team. Gunes has recorded 14 double-doubles so far this year as they head to the MAAC Tournament.
The Bobcats return to action on Saturday, November 22nd, as they will face the Rider Broncs in the MAAC Semifinals at Leo D. Mahoney Arena in Fairfield, Connecticut.
