HAMDEN, Connecticut – At the 2016 Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Awards Banquet, senior goalie Michael Garteig (Prince George, British Columbia) was chosen as the program's Most Valuable Player while freshman Chase Priskie (Pembroke Pines, Florida) earned the team's Rookie of the Year Award. Both awards were voted on by Quinnipiac's student-athletes, coaches and support staff. Quinnipiac's coaching staff honored Tim Clifton (Matawan, New Jersey)with the 7th Player Award, Devon Toews (Abbotsford, British Columbia) and Tom Hilbrich (Port Credit, Illinois) with the Coaches Award and Soren Jonzzon (Mountain View, California) and Derek Smith (Apple Valley, Minnesota) with the Academic Award.
In addition to the annual awards handed out, head coach Rand Pecknold also presented senior Tom Hilbrich (Port Credit, Illinois) with a Gold Quinnipiac jersey, affixed with an "A", to recognize him as an assistant captain for the 2015-16. Hilbrich, who was joined by his parent's at the awards banquet, was recognized by the night's lone standing ovation from the 200 attendees.

Garteig was chosen as the team's MVP after an incredible season in which he broke the program record for career wins (78), single-season wins (32), single-season shutouts (8) and career shutouts (19). In addition, Garteig finished his career as the just the fourth goalie in NCAA Division I history to record 19 shutouts in his career and ranked in the top 15 in career victories. Garteig completed the year with a 1.91 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage, earning ECAC Hockey Third Team honors.
In addition, Garteig was named the NCAA East Regional Most Outstanding Player after back-stopping the Bobcats to a pair of wins against RIT and UMass Lowell to send Quinnipiac to its second NCAA Frozen Four in four seasons. Garteig was also the ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Month in October, November and December and was also honored by the Hockey Commissioner's Association as the National Player of the Month for November.

Priskie completed an impressive first season for the Bobcats in which he earned ECAC Hockey All-Rookie honors after totaling four goals and 22 assists for 26 points while also posting a +16. Priskie's 22 assists and 26 points are the second most for a Quinnipiac freshman defenseman since 1998-99 when the Bobcats joined the NCAA Division I ranks. Matt Erhart's 27 assists and 31 points as freshman in 1999-2000 are the program's freshman record. Priskie had a solid showing in the ECAC Hockey tournament, registering two goals and two assists while he became the first Quinnipiac defensemen since Dan Henningson in 2008 to score twice in an ECAC Hockey tournament game. Additionally, his 22 assists led all ECAC Hockey freshmen.
Clifton earned the 7th Player Award, given to an individual who has shown the most growth as a member of the men's ice hockey team in his time at Quinnipiac. The break-out star in the Bobcats' line-up, Clifton entered the season with 12 goals and 15 assists in 77 career games across two seasons before exploding for 19 goals and 24 assists for 43 points in 39 games this year, while also posting a team-leading +27 to earn ECAC Hockey Second Team honors. Clifton joined Sam Anas and Travis St. Denis to give the Bobcats a trio of 40-point scorers, and one of four players to reach the 40-point mark in ECAC Hockey. In league games only, Clifton finished second to 2016 Hobey Baker Award winner Jimmy Vesey in goals (14), assists (15) and points (29), while leading the league in power play goals (6), power play points (11), short-handed goals (2), game-winning goals (4) and +/- (+22) in 22 ECAC Hockey games.
Toews and Hilbrich were honored with the Coaches Award, which is given to the student-athlete who exemplifies everything that Quinnipiac men's hockey embodies. Toews earned ECAC Hockey Second Team honors after scoring seven goals and assisting on 23 more for 30 points, making him just the third Quinnipiac defensemen – along with Erhart and Reid Cashman – to record 30 points in a season. Toews also earned New England All-Star recognition and was a finalist for ECAC Hockey's Best Defensive Defenseman Award. Following Quinnipiac's run to the National Championship Game, Toews signed with the National Hockey League's New York Islanders. Hilbrich will complete a four-year career with the Bobcats that was characterized for his contributions off-the-ice. Hilbrich graduated following his junior season as the Quinnipiac School of Business' top marketing graduate and will complete his fourth year in Hamden with a master's degree. An inspiring locker room presence, Hilbrich has helped guide the Bobcats to four-straight NCAA Tournaments and a pair of NCAA Frozen Four appearances.
Jonzzon received his third consecutive Academic Award, given to the Quinnipiac men's ice hockey player with the highest grade-point average on the team. First awarded to Jean-Marc Beaudoin in 2009, Jonzzon joins Yuri Bouharevich as the only two players to earn three-consecutive Academic Awards. Jonzzon currently carries a 4.00 GPA in pursuit of his master's in laboratory science. Derek Smith was also recognized by the coaching staff after posting a 3.94 GPA as a business finance major. Smith scored three goals and assisted on 13 more for 16 points while also leading the team, and ranking among the ECAC Hockey and NCAA leaders with 76 blocked shots. Smith scored the game-winning goals against Princeton on Dec. 30 in Hamden before following the game-winner in overtime against Harvard at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 9, 2016.
