On the Road Again
The nationally-ranked No. 4/4 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team is on the road for the final time in the 2015-16 regular season as they travel to Ithaca, New York to take on the Cornell Big Red at Lynah Rink at 7 P.M. on Friday, Feb. 5 before taking the drive over to Hamilton, New York to face the nationally-ranked No. 10/10 Colgate Raiders on Saturday, Feb. 6 at Starr Rink at 4 P.M.
Do It For Daron
Quinnipiac will be taking part in its second "Do It For Daron" weekend as they will join the Cornell Big Red on Friday for their annual DIFD game. DIFD is an organization started by the family of Cornell women's ice hockey senior defenseman Morgan Richardson's family in memory of her sister, Daron, who lost her life to suicide several years ago. The organization raises money and awareness for mental health. Fans are encouraged to wear purple to the game, as the family chose purple for the color of the organization since it was Daron's favorite color.
All-Time Against Cornell
The Bobcats have been solid as of late against the Big Red, going 4-1-1 in the last six matchups since the end of the 2012-13 season, including a 3-1 victory this past November. Nicole Kosta led the Bobcats in that first matchup of the season with one goal and one assist while Meghan Turner scored the game-winning goal. Taylar Cianfarano notched a power-play goal for the Bobcats as part of their three-goal second period. In program history, the Bobcats are 7-12-6 all-time.
Scouting the Big Red
After being selected to finish fourth in the preseason coaches' poll, Cornell has struggled this season as they head into the weekend with a 9-10-4 overall record and 5-7-4 mark in conference play. This past weekend, Cornell split a weekend series with Rensselaer and Union, falling to the Engineers in overtime, 2-1. In the last five games, Cornell is 1-2-2 with Union coming as the only win. Hanna Bunton has been having a solid season for the Big Red, netting 11 goals and assisting 11 more for 22 points. Bunton is tied with senior Jess Brown for the most goals on the team, while Brown is second on the team in points with 11. Freshman defenseman Micah Hart leads the team in assists with 15 and is third on the team with 16 points. Overall, eight players on the Big Red have recorded 10 or more points while five players have recorded five or more goals. The Big Red have struggled defensively, allowing 65 goals in 23 games. Paula Voorheis has seen the majority of the action between the pipes, going 5-8-3 with a 2.39 GAA and .911 save percentage. Special teams have hurt the Big Red the most, with Cornell's power play at just 16.1 percent (14 for 87) while the penalty kill is only at 81 percent (68 for 84).
All-Time Against Colgate
Quinnipiac has climbed the ladder lately against Colgate, as they are riding a 10-game unbeaten streak against the Raiders with this past November's 0-0 tie snapping a nine-game winning streak. Sydney Rossman made 22 saves while Colgate's Ashlynne Rando made an impressive 44 saves in the tie. Overall, Quinnipiac trails the season series against Colgate, 11-14-4.
Scouting the Raiders
Colgate has been one of the surprise teams in ECAC Hockey this season, coming into the weekend tied for third in the league and boasting a 16-5-7 record (8-3-5 ECAC Hockey). The Raiders swept last weekend's series with Rensselaer and Union and are 3-1-1 in their last five games, with the only loss coming at the hands of Clarkson. The Raiders offense has been solid, led by freshman Bailey Larson who has 10 goals and 16 assists for a team-high 26 points. Breanne Wilson-Bennett has a team-high 12 goals with 10 assists for 20 points while both Annika Zalewski and Shae Labbe have 10 goals and 10 assists for the Raiders. Four players have record 20 or more points while nine players have posted double figure point totals. Freshman goaltender Julie Vandyk has come on since the beginning of the season and taken over as the starter, playing in six of the last seven games after replacing Ashlynne Rando. Vandyk is 10-1-3 in 15 games with a 2.09 GAA and .918 save percentage. Colgate owns the second-highest power play percentage behind Quinnipiac at 25 percent (23 for 92) heading into the weekend while the penalty kill has still been pretty solid at 85.1 percent (86 for 101).

Bobcats in the Polls
For the 17th consecutive week this season, the Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team was ranked in the top 10 of the USCHO.com Division I Women's Poll and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, ranking fourth for a program record eighth consecutive week. The Bobcats have been ranked in the top 10 of the USCHO.com Poll for 62 consecutive weeks. This week, Quinnipiac is one of two schools in the country to have both its men's and women's ice hockey teams ranked in the top five of both polls, joined by Boston College who's men's team is ranked No. 5 and the women's team is No. 1.
Bobcats in the PairWise
Quinnipiac has continued to retain its solid position at the No. 4 spot in the PairWise rankings for the past two months, nestled between Minnesota at No. 3 and Clarkson at No. 5. With a .889 winning percentage, the Bobcats have the third highest winning percentage while its RPI of .6385 is nearly .2 higher than Clarkson, giving the Bobcats some breathing room. In strong playoff position from ECAC Hockey is Quinnipiac (No. 4), Clarkson (No. 5) and Princeton (No. 7) while Harvard (No. 10), Colgate (No. 11) and St. Lawrence (T-No. 12) are on the outside looking in.
Another Record Bites the Dust
Quinnipiac women's ice hockey continues to reach new heights this season, as the Bobcats extended their program record unbeaten streak to 20 games, the second longest active unbeaten streak in the country. The Bobcats have currently not lost since Oct. 31, 2015. Goaltender Sydney Rossman has been in goal for all 20 games, breaking Chelsea Laden's old program record for unbeaten streak by a goaltender of 15 games.
Winning is Fun
Not only are the Bobcats on a 20-game unbeaten streak, they have also won six straight games for their second longest unbeaten streak of the season. Earlier this season, the Bobcats' set the program record with a 10-game winning streak. The Bobcats had that streak snapped with a scoreless tie at Rensselaer, before starting thier current winning streak.
The View From Above
The Bobcats continue to shine as one of the top defensive teams in country, ranking in the top three of the country in numerous categories. The Bobcats second in the country to Wisconsin for the most shutouts in the country with 12, while the Bobcats' 0.88 GAA is second only to Wisconsin's 0.57. Quinnipiac has also allowed the second fewest goals in the country, yielding just 24 compared to Wisconsin's 16. In terms of shots on goal, the Bobcats have allowed the fewest shots on goal in the country at 472 and second fewest shots on goal per game at 17.48.
Trailer Hitch
Quinnipiac has been such a dominant force this season and have trailed for less minutes than an entire game this season. Over the course of the season, the Bobcats have trailed for just 48:26, the second fewest minutes behind Boston College who has trailed for only 21:22.
Best in the League
Quinnipiac continues to enjoy the view from the top of the ECAC Hockey standings, leading the way with 27 points and lead second place Clarkson by five points. Offensively, the Bobcats have the second best offensive behind Clarkson while the Bobcats defense is the top defense in the conference.
I've Got the Power
The Bobcats power play has been on a tear this season with the power play at 26.0 percent after scoring 20 power play goals in 77 opportunities, good for the best power play percentage in ECAC Hockey and third in the country. Even better, the Bobcats have scored a power-play goal in six consecutive games. With six games to play this season, the Bobcats power play percentage is currently the highest in program history.
First Time for Everything
With their 1-0 win at Harvard on Jan. 29, Quinnipiac recorded its first road victory at Harvard in program history after going 0-11-0 in their first 11 meetings. The Bobcats win also gave them their first ever regular season sweep of the Crimson, as well as just the second time in program history that the Bobcats have won back-to-back games.
ECAC Hockey Weekly Awards
Melissa Samoskevich was honored for the third time this season as the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week and first time in the 2016 calendar year. Samoskevich was previously named the rookie of the week on Nov. 3 and Dec. 8, and is the ninth weekly award for the Bobcats this season.
ECAC Hockey Monthly Awards
Sydney Rossman has been honored for the second time this season as the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Month after a stellar January. Rossman was previously named the goaltender of the month in November, and the Bobcats have won a monthly award in each month of the season so far.
Pajama Samo
Samoskevich had another week to remember for the Bobcats as she scored the game-winning power-play goal in both games over weekend to lead the Bobcats to victory. Samoskevich scored the only goal against the Harvard Crimson in a 1-0 victory while she scored the second goal of their 2-1 win at Dartmouth. Samoskevich's two power-play goals were the first two of her career while her seven game-winning goals are tied with Boston College's Alex Carpenter for the most in the country.
Woods-n-Tap
Emma Woods scored the only other goal over the weekend for the Bobcats for her sixth tally of the season while adding to her career-high assist total with her 19th helper of the season. With 25 points this season, Woods has tied her single-season career-high set during her freshman season in 2013-14. Woods picked up the helper on Samoskevich's game-winner at Harvard, her fifth game-winning assist of the season.
Rick Ross-man
Sydney Rossman has been rolling all season long for the Bobcats, and this past weekend was no exception as she record a 20-save shutout at Harvard to lead the Bobcats to their first road win against the Crimson in program history. Rossman leads ECAC Hockey with 22 wins, 12 shutouts, a .949 save percentage, 0.88 GAA and has also made 448 saves this season. Rossman is also second in the country in wins, shutouts, and goals against average.
Learning from the Past
Rossman's numbers are spectacular, and are even better than Chelsea Laden's numbers from this time one year ago. Through 27 games for Laden in 2014-15, she had 21 wins, 12 shutouts, a .937 save percentage, a 0.99 GAA and 402 saves. Rossman is currently on pace to break Laden's single season records for wins (26), shutouts (16), GAA (1.19) and is close to Victoria Vigilanti's single-season save percentage (.950).
Defense to Offense
Kristen Tamberg tied her single-season career-high of 13 assists on Friday with an assist on Samoskevich's game-winning goal against Harvard. The Bobcats' leading-scoring defenseman has two goals and 13 assists for 15 points this season, putting her career point total at 41.
What a Year
Taylar Cianfarano clearly does not believe in sophomore slump after posting 22 goals and 17 assists for 39 points this season, one shy of tying Kelly Babstock's 2011-12 record of 40 points by a sophomore. Cianfarano leads ECAC Hockey in goals and points, and she has scored 12 of her goals in conference play, also the best in the conference. Nationally, Cianfarano is tied for the fourth most goals in the country and is ninth in points.
Getting Closer
Nicole Connery continues to inch closer and closer to the 100 point mark after picking up an assist on Saturday against Dartmouth. Connery is at 89 career points, after recording her 24th point of the season. Connery has tallied 15 assists as a senior for the Bobcats to go along with nine goals as one of the top offensive weapons.
Marms the World
Danielle Marmer picked up her third assist of the season on Saturday with a helper against the Big Green, setting a new single-season career-high for assists in a season. Last year, Marmer recorded two assists against Princeton in the ECAC Hockey playoffs. Marmer's three points are tied for her most in a single-season with last season's three points.
Miranda's Modern Life
Miranda Lantz also picked up another assist on the season to give her five, tied with Randi Marcon for the second most among freshman on the team this season. Lantz now has assists in two of the last three games after not picking up an assist since the Dec. 4 game against Dartmouth.

Connery is at 89 career points, after recording her 24th point of the season. Connery has tallied 15 assists as a senior for the Bobcats to go along with nine goals as one of the top offensive weapons.
Marms the World
Danielle Marmer picked up her third assist of the season on Saturday with a helper against the Big Green, setting a new single-season career-high for assists in a season. Last year, Marmer recorded two assists against Princeton in the ECAC Hockey playoffs. Marmer's three points are tied for her most in a single-season with last season's three points.
Miranda's Modern Life
Miranda Lantz also picked up another assist on the season to give her five, tied with Randi Marcon for the second most among freshman on the team this season. Lantz now has assists in two of the last three games after not picking up an assist since the Dec. 4 game against Dartmouth.
