QU Women's Ice Hockey Falls, 4-1, to Clarkson on Friday Night

HAMDEN, Conn. - No. 5/5 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey fell to No. 8/8 Clarkson, 4-1, on Friday night at High Point Solutions Arena in Hamden. Quinnipiac falls to 7-3-1 (2-1-0 ECAC) with the loss, while Clarkson improves to 7-3-1 (3-0-0 ECAC) with the win.
Kati Tabin (Winnipeg, Manitoba) scored her first career goal in the loss. She fired a shot into the back of the net from the point with 9:46 left in the third period, with assists credited to Taylar Cianfarano (Oswego, New York) and Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Connecticut) on the play.
Quinnipiac's best chance of the first period came with just over five minutes left. Meghan Turner (Bedford, New Hampshire) skated around the back of the goal and dumped off a pass to Sarah-Eve Coutu-Godbout (Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec), who fired a wrist shot toward net that was blocked by a Clarkson defender to keep the game scoreless.
Clarkson capitalized on a power-play chance with 12:23 left in the second period to take the lead. Josiane Pozzebon blasted a wrister into the back of the net for her fourth goal of the year, giving the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead. Assists were credited to Rhyen McGill and Ella Shelton on the play.
Clarkson had a chance to make it a two-goal game with 5:30 left in the period. Cayley Mercer got free and fired a shot from the slot, but Quinnipiac goaltender Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) was there to make the save to keep the deficit at one goal. Rossman made 15 saves, nine in the second period.
The Bobcats almost tied things just before the second intermission. Kenzie Prater (Hudson, Wisconsin) had a shot saved, the regained control of the puck and blasted a shot just wide of the net and Clarkson took the 1-0 lead into the third period.
Corie Jacobson netted Clarkson's second goal of the night with 17:11 left in the third period. Jacobson fired a shot from the blue line that found its way into the net, making it 2-0 Golden Knights.
Jessica Gillham made it a three-goal game just over three minutes later, grabbing her third goal of the year for Clarkson.
Tabin got the Bobcats on the board with 9:46 left in the third. The goal, Tabin's first of her collegiate career, is her second career point. With the assist, Cianfarano now has 96 career points on 54 goals and 42 assists.
Michaela Pejzlova grabbed an empty-netter for Clarkson to round out the scoring with 57 seconds left.
Quinnipiac is back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 5, hosting No. 6/7 St. Lawrence. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. from High Point Solutions Arena in Hamden.
