HAMDEN, Conn. - No. 5/5 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey lost its second straight conference game on Saturday afternoon at High Point Solutions Arena, falling 1-0 to No. 6/7 St. Lawrence.
Quinnipiac falls to 7-4-1 (2-2-0 ECAC) with the loss, while St. Lawrence stays undefeated at 9-0-1 (4-0-0 ECAC) with the victory. The last time the Bobcats lost two-straight games was in March of 2015.
There were no penalties called in the entire game. Quinnipiac hasn't played a penalty-free game since March. 7, 2015 vs. Harvard.
Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) made 15 saves for the Bobcats in the loss. Rossman now has a .929 save percentage and a 1.42 goals-against average on the 2016-17 season.
St. Lawrence's goal came just 4:53 into the first period. The Saints won a faceoff in the offensive zone, then Hanah Miller fired a shot toward net. After the puck deflected off a Quinnipiac defender, senior Brooke Webster tipped it home for her seventh score of the season to make it 1-0.
Quinnipiac had a good chance to even things up less than two minutes into the second period. Kenzie Lancaster (Waxhaw, North Carolina) and Randi Marcon (Winnipeg, Manitoba) skated up the ice on a 2-on-1, and Lancaster - with space - fired a shot toward net that was saved by St. Lawrence goaltender Grace Harrison.
Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Connecticut) and Taylar Cianfarano (Oswego, New York) had a 2-on-1 chance of their own just before time expired at the end of the second period. Samoskevich fired a wrist shot just wide of the left side of the net, and the Saints took a one-goal lead into the second intermission.
Harrison made 20 saves in total for St. Lawrence. She now has four shutouts on the season.
Quinnipiac hits the road again next weekend, traveling to Dartmouth on Nov. 11 (6 p.m.) and Harvard (3 p.m.) on Nov. 12.
