NEW HAVEN, Conn – Taylar Cianfarano (Oswego, New York) scored two power-play goals to help lead No. 5/4 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey past Yale, 4-1, in its ECAC Hockey opener on Friday night at Ingalls Rink.
With the win, the Bobcats improve to 6-2-1 (1-0-0 ECAC) so far in 2016-17. Yale falls to 2-1-0 (0-1-0 ECAC) with the loss.
Cianfarano now has eight goals this year – four of which have come on the power play.
Bobcats' goaltender Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) made 24 saves in the win. Sophomore Kenzie Lancaster (Waxhaw, North Carolina) chipped in with her first-career goal, and Meghan Turner (Bedford, New Hampshire) recorded her third score of the season in the win.
Quinnipiac got on the board just 53 seconds into the second period on a power play. Cianfarano knocked the puck away from Yale goaltender Hanna Mandl, then brought it around the back of the net and finished to make it 1-0 Bobcats. The wrap-around goal is Cianfarano's seventh goal of the year, while Emma Woods (Burford, Ontario) and Taryn Baumgardt (Innisfail, Alberta) were each credited with an assist on the play.
Yale's Jordan Chancellor scored with 9:02 left in the second period, evening things 1-1. Chancellor skated up the left side of the ice with space on a 2-on-1, then blasted a wrist shot into the left side of the net to tie the game.
The Bobcats took the lead back with 32.5 seconds remaining in the second period. Lancaster intercepted a pass mid-ice, then fired a slap shot into the back of the net for her first-career score to give Quinnipiac a 2-1 advantage heading into the intermission.
Rossman recorded 15 saves during the second period of play, which is tied for the most stops she's had in a period during her collegiate career. She last made 15 saves in a period on Jan. 1, 2016 – also against Yale.
