HAMDEN, Connecticut – No. 5/4 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey kicks off ECAC Hockey play this coming weekend, traveling to Yale on Friday, Oct. 28 and Brown on Saturday, Oct. 29. The Bobcats aim to get back on track following their first winless weekend of the season last week.
COMMANDING THE CONFERENCE
Quinnipiac dominated ECAC Hockey play last year, going 16-2-4. The Bobcats finished with 36 overall points, three total points ahead of Clarkson – who went 14-3-5 in conference action. QU allowed just 18 goals in 22 conference games in 2015-16.
LAST WEEKEND
Quinnipiac went 0-1-1 last weekend vs. No. 4/5 Boston College.
Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) made a career-high 38 saves and recorded her fifth shutout of the season on Friday, Oct. 24 at Conte Forum in a scoreless tie vs. the Eagles. Rossman's 38 stops are the most a goaltender has made during a shutout in Quinnipiac program history. The previous record was held by Victoria Vigilanti - who made 37 saves on Feb. 5, 2010 at Cornell. The senior now has 23 career shutouts, needing only three more for the program's career record.
Boston College then topped the Bobcats, 4-1, at High Point Solutions Arena in Hamden on Saturday, Oct. 22. Taryn Baumgardt (Innisfail, Alberta) recorded her first goal of the season in the second period for Quinnipiac, with an assist coming from Kati Tabin(Winnipeg, Mannitoba). Rossman made 15 stops in the loss.
ALL-TIME vs. YALE
Quinnipiac has taken three of the last four meetings against Yale. The Bobcats are 14-15-6 all-time vs. the Bulldogs. QU won the first-ever meeting between the two programs in 2001, but Yale then took five of the next six games. Quinnipiac hasn't lost a home game to the Bulldogs since Jan. 31, 2009. Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Connecticut) found the back of the net the last time the teams met on Jan. 1, 2016. Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) made 29 saves in a shutout win.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Yale is 2-0 on the young season, topping RIT by a combined score of 12-3 in its first two games of the 2016-17 regular season last weekend. Taylor Marchin and Krista Yip-Chuck each have two goals and three assists for five points. Kara Drexler has four points on four helpers, and Jordan Chancellor (1 goal, 2 assists) and Eden Murray (3 assists) have three points thus far. Hannah Mandl started both games in net this past weekend, posting a 1.50 goals-against average on 33 saves (.917 save percentage).
ALL-TIME vs. BROWN
Quinnipiac has topped Brown in each of the last nine meetings, and 12 of the last 13 matchups. The Bobcats are 15-6-3 all-time against the Bears. Brown took the first three meetings of the all-time series, as Quinnipiac first beat Brown on Nov. 5, 2006. QU trounced Brown in both meetings last year by a combined score of 9-1. The last time the two met, on Jan. 2, 2016, Nicole Connery (Newmarket, Ontario) led all skaters with three points on one goal and two assists.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Brown topped Sacred Heart twice to begin the 2016-17 campaign last weekend, scoring a combined 13 goals in the two wins. Alley Rempe led the charge with two goals and four assists for six points, Sam Donovan had a team-high four goals, Bridget Carey had three scores and Sena Hanson recorded three helpers. Three goalies saw action for Brown in the two games.

Junior forward Taylar Cianfarano (Oswego, New York) was selected to the Preseason All-ECAC First Team. Last year as a sophomore, Cianfarano led the ECAC with 52 points.
OFFENSIVE ATTACK
Quinnipiac returns three of its top five scorers from 2015-16. Cianfarano led the team with 52 points on 28 goals and 24 assists, Emma Woods (Burford, Ontario) recorded 34 points via 11 goals and 23 assists, and Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, CT) 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points. Nicole Connery (13g, 14a) and Nicole Kosta (10g, 15a) both graduated following the end of last season.
LAST SEASON
As a team, Quinnipiac is on the heels of perhaps its most impressive season in program history, which ended with an ECAC Hockey Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. The Bobcats went 30-3-5 in 2015-16, earning the most wins and highest win percentage (.885) in team history. Head coach Cassandra Turner also set the NCAA Record for most wins by a first-year women's ice hockey head coach.

THE CAPTAIN
Emma Woods (Burford, Ontario) was unanimously voted by her teammates to be the Bobcats' captain for 2016-17 season, the team announced on Sunday, April 3. Woods will be the 15th different player to be named captain in the program's 16-year history. As a junior, she served as an assistant captain alongside Kristen Tamberg (North Toronto, Ontario) - with Cydney Roesler (Stittsville, Ontario) as the captain. Forward Meghan Turner and goaltender Sydney Rossman have been selected as assistant captains. Woods has three goals and an assist so far this year for the Bobcats, and 38 career goals to go along with 49 assists.
ROSSMAN
Bobcats' goaltender Sydney Rossman returns for 2016-17. She had a .949 save percentage a season ago, allowing just .90 goals per game in 39 games (second-best in the nation). The 2016 ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Year recorded 16 shutouts in 2015-16, which is tied with former Bobcat netminder Chelsea Laden's single-season record from 2014-15. Her current .946 save percentage and .95 goals-against average for her career rank No. 1 in program history. She has four shutouts so far in 2016-17, with a .934 save percentage. She is also an assistant captain for Quinnipiac this year.
CIANFARANO
T.T. Cianfarano recorded 28 goals and 24 assists last year, winning ECAC Hockey Player of the Year honors. She owns the Quinnipiac program record for most goals and most points in a single-season for a sophomore. She was selected to the Preseason 2016-17 All-ECAC First Team, and has recorded a team high nine points on six goals and three assists so far this season. Cianfarano has 51 career goals and 40 career assists, putting her 9 points away from 100.
SAMOSKEVICH
Melissa Samoskevich has two goals and three assists for five points so far this year. She was named to the ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team last season, after putting up 16 goals and 16 assists as a freshman. Samoskevich has 18 goals and 19 assists for 37 career points.
TURNER
Meghan Turner, an assistant captain for the Bobcats in 2016-17, has two goals and four assists for six points so far this season. She has 19 career goals and 17 career assists over four years with the Bobcats – including a career-high eight goals in 2015-16.
BAUMGARDT
Taryn Baumgardt (Innisfail, Alberta) recorded her first goal of the season in Quinnipiac latest game – a loss to Boston College. The defender has two goals and four assists for six points in 2014-15, and then three goals and 10 helpers for 13 points in 2015-16. She has seven career goals and 22 assists.
GRECO
Senior Emma Greco has two assists so far this season to go along with a team-high 13 blocked shots. She has two goals and 15 assists for 17 career points.
FRESH FACES
The Bobcats have added five freshmen to their roster to begin the 2016-17 season. Kati Tabin (Winnipeg, MB) and Allison Roethke (Buffalo, MN) join the defensive core, Abby Cleary (Buffalo, NY) and Kenzie Prater (Hudson, WI) join as forwards, and Abbie Ives(Bedford Hills, NY) will be one of Quinnipiac's three goalies this year. Prater recorded two assists last weekend in her first collegiate action for the Bobcats.
