
QU Women's Ice Hockey Extends Unbeaten Streak to 20 Games with 2-1 Win Over Dartmouth

HANOVER, New Hampshire – Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Connecticut) scored her second game-winning power-play goal in as many days to lead the nationally-ranked No. 4/4 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team past the Dartmouth Big Green, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Thompson Arena.
With the victory, the Bobcats extended their program record unbeaten streak to 20 games as they won their 22nd game of the season. The win also extended their winning streak to six games as Quinnipiac improved its record to 22-1-4 (12-1-3 ECAC Hockey) in the win. Dartmouth extended its winless streak to 14 games with the loss, dropping their record to 4-15-3 (4-9-3 ECAC Hockey).
Samoskevich's game-winning power-play goal was her 13th of the season as she extended her goal and point-scoring streaks to three consecutive games. Samoskevich now has 27 points on the season, second on the team and fifth in ECAC Hockey, and second among league rookies.
The Bobcats went 1 for 3 on the power play to give the Bobcats six straight games with a power-play goal while Dartmouth went 1 for 2 on the man advantage.
Emma Woods (Burford, Ontario) netted her sixth goal of the season for the Bobcats midway through the first period to give her 25 points on the season, tying her single-season career-high set during her sophomore season.
Nicole Connery (Newmarket, Ontario) tallied her 15th assist and 24th point of the season with an assist on Woods' first period goal. The assist gives Connery 51 in her career and 89 points as she continues her quest for 100 career points.
Danielle Marmer (Dorset, Vermont) and Miranda Lantz (Mildmay, Ontario) each picked up assists in the win for the Bobcats with Marmer tallying her third assist of the year and Lantz picking up her fifth.
Goaltender Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) picked up her 22nd win of the season, making 13 saves against the Big Green on 14 shots.
Woods gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead with 10:37 to go in the first period with her first goal since Dec. 5 in Quinnipiac's 2-1 overtime win over Harvard. Dartmouth goaltender Robyn Chemago misplayed the puck behind the net and tried to chase it down but Connery beat her to the puck. Connery hit Woods with a pass in the right face-off circle where Woods ripped the puck into the wide open net with Chemago scrambling to get back into position.
Samoskevich doubled the Bobcats lead to 2-0 with 16:19 to play in the third period. As the Bobcats were making the rush out of the defensive zone, Lantz sent a pass up to Marmer at the blue line. Marmer then touched the puck to Samoskevich, who skated from the left side of the zone across the crease and backhanded the puck five-hole past Chemago.
Dartmouth cut Quinnipiac's lead in half to 2-1 with 9:33 to play in the third period. After picking up the puck in the neutral zone, Noronha skated with speed up the right boards and into the offensive zone where she wristed the puck past Rossman's glove for the first goal of her career.
The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team returns to action next Friday when they make their final road trip of the regular season to Ithaca, New York to face the Cornell Big Red at 7 P.M. on Feb. 5 at Lynah Rink before travelling over to Hamilton, New York to take on the Colgate Raiders at Starr Rink at 4 P.M.
